January 2002: Working on 305 parts:
![]() ![]() Next
step, taking off the intake manifold
(As soon as I succeed to unscrew the unreacheable bolt...) |
![]() I
put a washer to set the play at 0.005" like explained in the "bible".
You can see it behind open at the right page... Then I do some cleaning on the distributor, |
![]() I
take off the heat shield that is supposed to prevent oil to burn on the
heated intake.
Well, it's a carbon mine! |
![]() And
now the nicest part:
cleaning the manifold from this kind of shoe polish that years have put on... I'm surprised to see how hot water and washing powder can be efficient. |
![]() ![]() Like
I've done on the heads, I put a intake gasket on the manifold to see if
some adjustements have to be done:
Bingo! |
![]() ![]() Aluminium
porting job is waaaaaay more easy than cast porting ;o). The problem is
that it's too easy!
You can dig a hole without notice it before it's too late. |
![]() ![]() Rounding
sharp angles and very rought surfaces to soften are the main targets.
The intake manifold begins to have a better look... |
![]() Even
it is not supposed to have much gain on performances, I spend some time
on the appearance.
It looks better than new (Anyway, I don't know how it looked when it was new...) |
![]() Once
I've made the plug, I put it in the hole enlarged before.
I tap nicely with a hammer until it fits exactly. Aluminium is nice to work. I 've also done a plug for the other side. |
