December 2001: Pistons in the block :

CLICK 2CCLICK 2CBefore putting the pistons, I grind the return oil holes on the block. This should improve the return oil to the pan.

Here are the results in this "before-after" serie:

CLICK 2CCLICK 2CCLICK 2CCLICK 2C

CLICK 2CCLICK 2CTo place the piston/rod assembly into the cylinder bore, I use this cheap trick:
a bit of 100mm dia. toilet hose slipt open to fit the rings on the piston,

and an oil filter wrench to compress them.

CLICK 2CCLICK 2CCLICK 2CI lightly tap on the head of the piston with a mallet handle until the piston enters the cylinder bore.

Then I torque the cap bolts checking a connecting rod side clearance of 0.01".
CLICK 2CCLICK 2CCLICK 2CPay attention to conversion between ft-lb, Nm and mKg...
45ft-lbx1,356=61Nm and
45ft-lbx0,138=6,2Mkg

AND NOT62Mkg!!! ;o)

CLICK 2CA view of the engine which have again his pistons lost 6 months ago!

CLICK 2CCLICK 2CI improve the oil pump like described at page 150 of my prefered book.I use this small bolt to stiffen the spring which regulate the oil pressure. This will increase it.

I can now put the timing cover and the oil pan.
