That Sad Girl's Face by Alex Kane

There was something in the look of that sad girl’s face
The desperation in her soft, brown eyes
I took her away from that cold, dark place
And carried her to the skies

We shared some laughs, some kisses, some tears
Confessed our love, failing to look from the inside out
She warned me of all her greatest fears
And I failed to fight it out

Our kindred spirits ran free in the night
For the first time, I knew what Jimmy and Elton had sung for
I was scared to let her go, to hold her too tight
God held her hand, but I cradled her heart dreaming of evermore

I’ll never know why she left me here
Crying for a world of broken promises
I ask for Zeus, or some great saint to send a spear
For my heart no longer belongs to me, or her, or anyone

She was my first love, first kiss, and first true barer of happiness
I know not why I fought so fiercely for the glory of our love
I know the storm rages on, yet I know not why it came to this
But I know I’ll not soon forget the way I felt when I was in love
