Maj. Benjamin Stites
Benjamin Stites took a flatboat down the Ohio River to sell flour.  He heard about stolen horses and so he followed the Indians across the river to find the horses. Instead he found land that was full of trees and rich soil.  This land was located near the Little Miami River.
The Indians helped them to find food.  They told them how to make bread out of bear grass.  There were lots of wild turkeys.  So they called the land Turkey Bottom which is now called Lunken Airport.
Benjamin Stites went back east to get money from Judge Symmes to purchase the land.  He brought back 26 settlers.  There were 20 men, 4 women and 2 children.  They built shelter with the wood from their boats.
