Toyota vs. Ford

I've been driving Toyotas for 13 years now.  I have come to the realization that Toyotas may just be the best brand on the market today.  Reliability, performance, and cost-per mile are the best of any car that I have ever driven.  I recently retired my  1987 Toyota Corolla FX after 250,000 miles.  It was still running fine and probably would have reached 400k without any major problems, but I wished to upgrade to a new car with air-conditioning.  Of course, I purchased another Toyota Corolla and I love it.   The cars are easily maintained.  Just keep the oil and filters clean, check the brakes periodically, change the timing belt every 70,000 miles, and use a little fuel-injector cleaner as needed. I'm confident that my new Corolla will be every bit as reliable as my old one.  I also own a 1993 Toyota 4x4.  This truck has the ultra-reliable 22RE engine and has never failed to bring me home from the mountains. (Too bad my Ford and Chevy friends can't say the same.)

An acquaintance of mine, Mike, used to operate the most frequently used tow truck in my region.  Mike drives tow-truck full time and has towed thousands of vehicles over the last 20 years.  If you ask Mike what brand of car he tows the most, he will emphatically reply, "Fords"!  If a particular brand of car must be towed that frequently, I cannot recommend that anyone should purchase one.  When it comes to reliability, Mike knows cars!  Friends don't let Friends drive Fords.
