In September 1961 the Ottawa District Council held a Woodbadge course for Cub Leaders at Camp Ave Maria, later known as Camp Echon. The participants of this course had so much fun and enjoyed the fellowship of their fellow Scouters so much that they decided to get together in a years time to reminisce and swap yarns from the past year. When the time came for this reunion the organizing committee decided to extend an invitation to other Scouters who had earned their Woodbadge. A great time was had by all. This started what was to become an annual event - The Eastern Ontario Gilwell Reunion. The Course leader of the 1961 Woodbadge course was Bower Carty. |
