True Stories
The White Hart, Blythburgh
Beccles, Suffolk
Beccles is home to several ghosts, some of which live within the grounds of Roos Hall, one of England's most haunted places.

A phantom coach and four horses, driven by a headless man thought to be a bridegroom, clatters through the gardens at Roos Hall on Christmas Eve. There is an oak tree there that stands on the site of a gibbet where many local criminals were once hanged. Not only is the spot haunted by these victims, but it is said that if anyone is brave enough to walk round the tree six times, the devil himself will appear.

There are marks on one of the walls inside Roos Hall which are referred to as the devil's footprints.
The White Hart was built originally as an ecclesiastical court house in the 13th century but there are 15th century additions to the building and it has been used as an inn for many years.

Sounds of knocking have been heard on a very old oak door between the living quarters and the bar.  Footsteps have been heard in the house also but both strange happenings stopped when a fire seriously damaged the inn in 1967.

Before that time an old man dressed in monk's habit was seen on several occasions and it was thought he may have been connected with the building when it was the church court house in the 14th century.
