Luzon-class Patrol Frigates: 35 in service

These frigates are designed for prolonged patrol in the outer reaches of star systems. They have more fuel than normal, and a longer-range sensor suite. They also have a very effective stealth system for picket duty off enemy systems. However, they are very lightly armed, and are not intended for fleet combat, just to alert home base and call in larger ships to deal with detected targets. Also known as the "Island" class.

Corvettes

Relative sizes of Earth Fleet corvettes compared to the largest pre-space warship

Barclay-class Patrol Frigates: 84 in service

These Corvettes are intended for low-priority tasks like peacetime convoy escort, training, and in-system customs patrol. They are not intended for stand-up fights, but can be used in wartime to take up rear-area patrol duties and thus free up larger ships for front-line combat. Ships of this class are named for Earth Fleet personnel who have died in combat.
