| Stay with us not as visitor but as 'panak amiq' - our distant relatives! As it was, when a group of people from across the border came over to go 'menselai' (seeking for fortune in a foreign region),would stop in our village on transit. They would lit fire at our 'tuun' (place where we come down for bath) and would not climb the longhouse until they are invited. The travelers then would have two options. Firstly was to follow the person who make the invitation or secondly was to go straight to the 'lamin jaau' - the headman's room. If the headman could not accommodate everyone due to the big number, the villagers would invite some of the travelers to put up with them. As a gesture of goodwill, travelers normally would never be in a hurry to resume their journey. They would stay in the longhouse for several days and participate in the daily chore of the host family. They would even try to impress the host by being creative and full of initiative, some gestures that their stay was well appreciated. You are a different group of travelers though. We do not expect you to impress us by doing what you are not use to. Neither are you some 'Orang Ulu' going down river looking for fortune, right? Instead you come from down river from another land, bringing us the fortune. If you come again a second time, then we would know that you are truly 'panak amiq'. |

| My longhouse is the first longhouse you would see as you come into the resettlement area. Call us the gatekeeper of the district if you like. You may want us to bring you around the whole area to see the size of the resettlement. | ||||||||||
