Rank and File: More Candid Interviews with the ETF Creators.
When we at ETFWeb got to sit down and talk with a few of the legendary Eagle Creators about their roles and influences in the creation of the saga, the wisecracks and jibes started flowing almost immediately. There is a strange kind of chemistry between these men. Grounded and Proud of It!! Some of the Eagle Saga's most memorable moments came about thanks to two men, Perry Snook and Sampson Schaffer, who created the Terror Twins vehicles, and helped define the nature of the Wing's espionage arm. First the vehicles. "We wanted something that would blend in, yet still be able to haul all the mission critical gear." Perry comments. "Of course, at the time frame Brian was setting the stories, that left only the Suburban." Sampson adds. "So, we needed to get our hands on a Suburban, we decided." Bri comments with a wink at the other two. "The best way to do that was to go to a dealership." "I Actually felt Sorry for the guy who came over to help us out. Here we are, climbing over, around, and through this Chevrolet Suburban in the display lot. He comes up to us with this look of What the Hell? all over his face. So Bri gets this idea to test drive the beast." Sampson explains. "Yeah, he told the poor guy that we were starting a small company, looking for a company vehicle." Perry adds. "The test drive started off normally enough....well, for this crew, that is. I drove the big truck off the lot..." Brian starts. "With Perry crawling all over the cargo area, making exclamations like, I think we could stow the SAWs here and We'd have to remove this whole panel up to me in the passenger's seat." Sampson adds. "So we get out of the dealership and to the onramp of I-80" Bri comments. "By the way, did we mention this was illegal? Bri didn't have a license at the time..." Sam puts in. "And so leadfoot over there" Perry comments, jerking his thumb at Brian, "hammers the gas pedal as he hits the onramp. Just about pushes me out the rear doors. Before I know it, we're cruising down the interstate at 75." "I thought the acceleration was pretty slow, actually." Brian comments. "Compared to WHAT, a rocket? Anyway, here we are, humming along at seventy or so, Sam and I poking into every nook and cranny of the truck, the salesman clearly afraid for his life, and I made the mistake of asking how responsive the steering was. Next thing I know, Kupfer is throwing the front wheel from side to side, checking the travel of the shocks and
rocking this mammoth SUV from side to side, and we're suddenly socks in a dryer. For once, all three of us agreed, and we knew we'd found the truck we needed." Perry finishes. "So we go back to the apartment, and, for like two weeks, Perry and Sam are creating schematics of the Suburban they imagine, while I read every availiable piece of literature on the Subbys I could find. The result is Lil' Abe, who appears in many of the later stories." Brian comments. "I read the story where Abe was first introduced when it came out about a month later, and it was really cool to see how something we had designed actually ended up working in the real world." "Or, the literary one, in this case...." Bri smirks. "You know what I meant." Teamwork is the Key....ask any Eagle
