| Is Insanity the key to Teamwork? Dragons become Fighter Jets? What's going on here? |
| So, teamwork is a key for the Eagles? "Yeah, and it's through the fantasy world that our military-esque team came to be." Jye states. "Jye and I read this great book in eight grade..." Brian begins "Which was actually a bound volume of three books" Jye adds helpfully. "..the Dragonlance Chronicles, a massive tome." Brian continues without missing a beat, raising an eyebrow at his creative partner. "The book was about a group of companions on a quest. When we started work on THE ELITE EAGLES, Jye and I thought back on this book." "Come to think of it, we'd never really read any Military-Fiction type books when we started writing one. It was all fantasy books, Weis and Hickman, David Eddings, Piers Anthony, J.R.R. Tolkien and Anne McCafferty. Matt read the Tom Clancy books. He was the military guy." "Uh, Mack Maloney. You two got me started on him, remember?" Ben Mattix comments. "Oh, yeah. Guess we did read him. But, we'd like to think we're a bit more realistic in our approach." "It's like comparing the Roger Moore Bond movies to the early Sean Connery or George Lazenby films." Perry comments. "What're you saying?" Frank Moreno asks Snook. "C'mon, man, look at some of the hokey plots Moore did. Just think of that damn policeman from Live and Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun..." Perry comments "Sherriff J.W. Pepper?" Anthony Dremann queries. Brian rolls his eyes and looks at Jye as the classic Bond argument starts up again. "Anyway, where were we?" Jye asks. "Teamwork." Brian states, "Or, in our case, insanity controlled." he amends with a look at Perry and Frank, still arguing, with Ben and Tony adding their input. "Yeah, we realized our team was going to have to have chemistry. If you listen to them for too much longer..... " Jye adds with a nod towards the Bond argument "...you'll be in on our secret. We took parts of our friends and gave some of their characteristics and idosyncracies to our characters." Brian finishes. "And, adding a bit of modern technology for window dressing, and an evil force to fight, we had a story." Matt Hetzel comments, finally getting into the conversation.
