Influences that led to the creation of the Eagle Task Force Saga
The origins of theEagle Task Force, in the literary world, are well known.  However, a lot of things have influenced the CREATION of theETF Saga.  The original book, The Elite Eagles, was started as a kind of retalitory gesture against a freshman english teacher.  However, the driving force behind the continuing success of the Eagles is one thing.  Friendship
Without the characters, the stories would be nothing, and, when you boil it down, that's what the
ETF is all about, one love.
But, though that is the main driving force behind the Eagles, there are a few things that have influenced the stories, and, obviously, the authors.  We at
ETFWeb sat down with a few of the Eagle creators and got their insight on what makes the 137th tick.

Military Aviation:
All of the ETF authors love aviation, and have always wanted to be pilots.  And, let's face it, the Military Forces of the world have got the most Sierra Hotel aircraft on earth.  Is it any surprise, then, that the Elite Eagles was a book based around characters loosely based on Bri and Jye's friends flying the best fighters against unbeatable odds, and winning, during World War Three? Not really.

Mercenaries:
Though ostensibly attached to the government, the 137th Wing, in all it's three stages, is never really a part of the military.
At least, not now.  It didn't start out that way.  Why the change?  A couple personal reasons.
"Jye didn't want his character to have to salute anyone" Bri comments with a grin when asked about the subject.
"Or cut his hair!!" Jye adds with a laugh.
"Besides, not all of us would fit in real well in the military.  There are just some things you
CAN'T afford through military service."
    "And Vyper
HAD to have that Viper Coupe!!" Tony smirks.
"Plus," Bri continues, "using Black Project funding as a cover gave us money and room to play with.  Plus, it seemed like a
REALLY great idea when I was writing The Concorde Incident." He states with a shrug.
     In fact, the
ETF report ONLY to the President of the United States, and have been known to hire out their services, so, are TECHNICALLY mercenaries.  Though, they have turned some money jobs down, as well.
Special/Black Ops: Special Operations have always fascinated the Eagle authors, and, so, they wanted their team to be able to do the same kinds of things.  But, being the ETF, after all, things had to be done a LITTLE differently.
"We studied the SpecOps squadrons extinsevely." Bri comments.
"Translation, we watched Navy Seals a couple dozen times." Perry replies.  "I think we wore Sam's old VHS tape out and had to buy the DVD a couple years back."
Bri sticks out his tounge, then continues, "What can I say, any movie with Charlie Sheen, Rick Rossovich, Michael Biehn, and Bill Paxton is a winner in my book.  But, seriously, I did a good load of reading on Special Ops forces around the world.  Then, Jye, Matt, and I modified their tactics to suit the unique chemistry of the Eagles.  Since we'd changed the ops, we changed the name.  It's Black Ops for the
ETF gang.
