Played on ice, the aim of the game is to deliver a large granite rock weighting around forty pounds at a target (head). The game is played between two teams of four who take turns to deliver two stones each at the head. The name of the game comes from the fact that the stones do not travel in a straight line as they travel down the ice. The direction of the turn placed on the stone will determine its path as it travels up the ice. The path and deceleration of the stone can also be altered by sweeping with a brush.
Curling is enjoyed by both sexes with ages ranging from very young to very old. The game sometimes known as chess on ice, involves a great deal of subtlety and strategy.
