Our mission is to build simple, decent homes and to create safe neighborhoods in partnership with God's people in need. Habitat forms partnerships with local churches, large and small businesses, civic groups, individuals, and even other non-profit organizations that are also dedicated to helping people in need.

The ability to find safe, affordable housing has become a nationwide dilemma. Concerned citizens who wanted to provide an opportunity for families in need to become homeowners established the Springdale Habitat affiliate. Through the efforts of our volunteer labor force, community supporters, and the homeowners, Habitat builds responsible neighborhoods...one house at a time.

Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and to making decent housing a matter of conscience and action. Habitat works in partnership with people in need throughout the world building simple, decent shelter that is sold to them at no profit through no-interest loans. Individuals who share our goal of eliminating substandard housing in the world donate funds, building materials and labor. Millard and Linda Fuller founded habitat in 1976 in Americus, Georgia.

Habitat for Humanity of Springdale was founded in 1995 and is the local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International. The local Habitat affiliate has completed three homes.

A local Family Selection Committee selects potential homeowners. Selections are based on three principles: (1) the family's need for adequate and affordable shelter, (2) the family's ability to pay, and (3) the family's willingness to partner. Habitat for Humanity selects families in a manner that complies with all federal laws prohibiting discrimination.

Habitat forms a partnership with the prospective homeowner who is required to work 400 hours of sweat equity. Sweat equity is the required time a homeowner has to work with the affiliate before being able to move into his or her new home. Sweat equity reduces the monetary cost of the house and increases the personal stake of each family member in his or her home.
