Dyslexia is a learning disability in processing numbers and words as well as words reversal. The traits of it start being obvious by the age of three. Children or adults with dyslexia have a severe impairment in the ability to read and spell. They sometime mix up letters such as ‘b’ and ‘d, ‘c’ and ‘k’, ‘e’ and ‘o’ and so on. Breaking up words into syllabus is difficult for them. Besides, they also have difficulty with ‘phonemic awareness’ which is the ability to hear individual sounds in word. For example, if you ask them what sounds they hear in the word ‘cat’ they would not be able to tell you they can hear ‘c’ – ‘a’ –‘t’. They can also pronounce words like ‘banana’ as ‘nana’ because they don’t hear the ‘ba’. Another info: Heredity is believed as a major factor that caused dyslexia. Hearing problem at the early age can also be a factor that leads to dyslexia. One thing can be sure is dyslexia is not brought by poor teaching and poor parenting. Dyslexia students often make a slow progress in study.
