Hello, and welcome to my all-new MIDIs page. Here, you will find a compendium of several of my MIDI sequences and compositions, and you will also find out how much I improved myself over time. Please excuse the quality of this page's layout, and blame my crappy HTML knowledge for it.
Before we begin the listing, I should point out that MIDIs that are marked with an (XG) tag are optimized for Yamaha S-XG playback, and will more often than not sound awful on General MIDI (further referred to as "GM"). XG-exclusive MIDIs also have an "_xg" at the end of their filenames, just before the ".mid" extention. Needless to say, unless otherwise specified, MIDIs are not optimized for any synth, which means they're GM.
Anyway, here we go:
Original compositions:
This section contains MIDIs I wrote entirely from scratch. Even though I wrote all of them, you may find out that some of them will read "composed by King Samon" in the infos. Don't panic. I didn't steal anything. I just used to be known as "King Samon" (ugh, I really hate that s/n). Also, you should note that some of them still need a title. I suck at finding titles. Anyway, enjoy!
12-beat (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Genre: Funk
Lenght: 1m13s
Size: 18Kb
Description: I did this to demonstrate what XG could sound like to one of my parents' friend who wanted a powerful sequencer and synth. Now the damn lucky guy has Reason 5, while I'm still stuck with Sonar 1.3... Anyway. This is one of my best originals, and I recommend downloading it, provided you have XG.
Adagio
Format: General MIDI
Genre: Classical
Length: 3m53s
Size: 10Kb
Description: A very smooth string adagio in Bb minor. I really like it, really. Worth downloading even if you don't like the genre. It's highly inspired by Barber's Adagio.
Bass (XG)
Format: XG MIDI, MP3 mirror 1, MP3 mirror 2
Genre: Techno
Lenght: 1m47s
Size: 22Kb (1,718Kb)
Description: I highly recommend downloading this one. It is easily one of my greatest songs. The whole song lies on the insane bassline that goes on until the song ends. I really think you're going to enjoy this one.
Patches frenzy (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Genre: Techno
Lenght: 2m01s
Size: 29Kb
Description: This was my entry for CBlockDis's contest at the VGMusic forums. The goal was to compose an original song with 50 or over different instruments. Normally I would've done that without a problem, but considering only 3 days were given to us, and I could only work on the entry for 2 of these days, all I could do was 25 instruments exactly. I still got away with it and made it to round 2, because my opponent only came up with an unfinished song. In my opinion, it's not bad, so yeah, I also recommend downloading this one.
Tamboud (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Genre: Unknown (ethnic?)
Lenght: 2m12s
Size: 9Kb
Description: Still an entry for CBlockDis's contest, the last one I submitted before the contest was canceled. In case you're wondering why I chose such an odd title, you should know that the goal was to compose a song for Sitar and Banjo. I exploited a weakness in the contest rule by using XG's special patches named Tamboura (sitar patch) and Oud (banjo patch). Basically a piano song transcribed for different - and rather odd, I might add - instruments. Not particularly interesting, but still.
"Piano" (title needed)
Format: General MIDI
Genre: Classical (piano only)
Lenght: 1m44s
Size: 18Kb
Description: I was bored some day and wanted to do something I was good at. So I decided to write a piano solo. Though this one's GM, it sounds much better when you listen to it with a good piano soundfont. You might notice that I played a lot with the tempo curve in this one. I recommend downloading it, it's pretty interesting in my opinion.
"Sad" (better title needed)
Format: General MIDI
Genre: Classical (piano only)
Lenght: 0m39s
Size: 6Kb
Description: Yet another piano song which is another entry for another contest at VGMusic. This one was similar to CBlockDis's contest, though the entries had to be about 30 seconds long. Pretty good song despite its short lenght, in my opinion.
Prepare for battle...
Format: General MIDI
Genre: SNES Video game
Lenght: 1m19s (loops twice)
Size: 9Kb
Description: Not much to say about this one. It's one of my really really old compositions inspired by Super Mario World 2's "Boss Intro" song. Download only if you have time to waste listening to a repetitive song...
Rudolph (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Genre: XMas(?)
Lenght: 1m22s
Size: 39Kb
Description: *sigh...* That was made back in something like December 2003. Do I have to tell you how much I was bored when I did this? It's an arrangement of the song "Rudolph the red nosed Reindeer." I really hope you'll enjoy it, because it's not my case.
WarHQ Online! soundtrack
I am working on my friend's project to make an online PC game called Warrior HeadQuarters Online!. Being the only composer/sequencer in my school, he asked me to compose his game's soundtrack. So far, only the main theme and boss battle theme are complete, but expect more to come in a month or so! Note that all MIDIs are GM, and are supposed to loop from the end back to the very beginning.
Main theme
Format: General MIDI
Genre: Orchestral
Lenght: 1m21s
Size: 26Kb
Description: The game's main theme, which plays when you open the game, and in the main menu. Not bad, in my opinion.
Boss battle theme
Format: General MIDI
Genre: Orchestral
Lenght: 2m10s
Size: 29Kb
Description: One of my greatest originals, by far. I really think it's worth giving it a try. I like how it loops one tone higher at 1m11s. Anyway. Enjoy!
Video Game Sequences:
This section features songs that come from various video games from various systems, and which I re-wrote in MIDI format, for pure pleasure. Despite what some believe, this is not copyright infringement, as the result is not identical to the original song. Anyway, I hope you'll enjoy my work because (most of) these took a lot of time to complete!
Donkey Kong Country 2 (SNES)
Haunted Hall (XG)
Format: XG MIDI, MP3 mirror 1, MP3 mirror 2
Original composer: David Wise
Lenght: 2m12s (loops twice)
Size: 60Kb (2,104Kb)
Description: DKC2 is one of my favorite game on the SNES, both for the game content and the soundtrack. This was sequenced on Friday January 13th, 2006. This is one of the rare MIDIs for which I provide an MP3 recording, because I believe it's worth it. So even if you don't have XG, I recommend that you download the MP3. You won't be losing your time!
Swanky's Sideshow (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Original composer: David Wise
Lenght: 0m48s
Size: 7Kb
Description: This was sequenced back in the time when I had Cakewalk Pro Audio 9. The song itself isn't much interesting, plus, the piano part is totally inaccurate. CPA9 isn't great for swing... Ah well. Download if you like, and if you have XG.
Gauntlet Legends (N64)
Main place
Format: General MIDI
Lenght: 0m45s
Size: 14Kb
Description: This is the only MIDI I ever sequenced without any actual reference other than my own memory. I played the game at my friend's home and decided this would make a nice (and easy) song to sequence. Obviously, it's very possible that a few details are wrong, but the basic idea's there. Not bad, if you ask me.
Mario Kart 64 (N64)
Toad's Turnkpike
Format: General MIDI (XG recommended)
Original composer: Kenta Nagata
Lenght: 2m35s
Size: 33Kb
Description: This was sequenced after a long, 4-months sequencing break after Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 stopped working, using a crappy, old-skool program named Voyetra DOP (Digital Orchestrator Pro). Not bad for a sequence done after such a long time of inactivity, if you ask me. I recommend it!
Perfect Dark (N64)
Dark Combat (XG)
Format: XG MIDI, MP3 mirror 1, MP3 mirror 2
Original composers: Grant Kirkhope & Graeme Norgate
Lenght: 4m45s
Size: 117Kb (2,645Kb)
Description: Perfect Dark also falls under my favorite games. The gameplay's great, graphics are great, the story plot is excellent, and, most importantly, the soundtrack's awesome. This song's no exception. Along with its particular time signature, the gravity of this song and the importance of percussions in it all made me sequence it. I really enjoyed sequencing it, and I hope you'll also enjoy listening to it. I must warn you, though. This song uses percussions on channel 9, feature which GM does not support. So these percussions will probably sound like a piano or a guitar.
Extraction - X (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Original composers: Grant Kirkhope & Graeme Norgate
Lenght: 1m51s
Size: 31Kb
Description: This song plays when you get back to floor 24 and must kill Cassandra's evil bodyguards. Not bad, not mindblowing. Uses a few XG patches. It is listenable with GM/GS, but you'll lose the brightness effect on the SynBa2Dk patch.
Training / Firing Range (XG)
Format: XG MIDI, MP3 mirror 1, MP3 mirror 2
Original composers: Grant Kirkhope & Graeme Norgate
Lenght: 4m35s
Size: 44Kb (2,397Kb)
Description: Did I mention PD's soundtrack was awesome? Yes? Well, let me to point it out again. This is the song I had the most fun to sequence in my entire life. This plays when you train in the firing range or hologram training. It's the second longest song I ever sequenced, and if I recall correctly, it was sequenced in 2003 and updated in 2004 and 2005. Unless you really dislike this kind of music, you really are going to enjoy this!
An MP3 recording is now available.
Villa - X (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Original composers: Grant Kirkhope & Graeme Norgate
Lenght: 2m00s
Size: 43Kb
Description: Gotta hate those damn ****ing cymbal-bells at 0m51s... Anyway. I also had a lot of fun sequencing this. It's among my favorite songs in the game, so no wonder why. I also love most of those X songs (which play during particularly intense parts of gaming during missions, by the way). I recommend that you download it, if you have XG, as always.
Super Mario All Stars (SNES)
Mario 3 - Airship
Format: General MIDI (XG recommended)
Original composer: Koji Kondo
Lenght: 0m50s
Size: 5Kb
Description: This is one of my only MIDIs for which XG is only recommended. That's because of the fine tuning of the timpani, which can be removed with any good MIDI sequencer. I'll be honest with you, this is not my best or most interesting MIDI sequence, so download if you like.
Super Smash Brothers Melee (GCN)
Corneria
Format: General MIDI
Original composer: Hirokazu Ando
Lenght: 1m57s
Size: 28Kb
Description: This was done after a 6 months sequencing break, so I guess it's normal that it sounds so awful. Ah well. This was composed with XG, but it can be listened to with any playback device. Enjoy, I guess...
Dr. Mario (XG)
Format: XG MIDI
Original composer: Hirokazu Ando
Lenght: 2m10s
Size: 24Kb
Description: Made shortly after Corneria, this sequence is a bit better, since I was getting more used to sequencing (again). Since it's for XG, it can only be better than Corneria, anyway. So yeah, I think you're going to enjoy this, provided you have XG...
Final Destination
Format: General MIDI
Original composer: Hirokazu Ando
Lenght: 2m46s
Size: 50Kb
Description: This song is among my favorite ones from the game. The sequence is not great, but at least it's GM. You guys probably have no idea how hard it was to sequence this accurately, unless you sequenced it yourself. Anyway, enjoy!
