A Hoy Matey! The Nina's Below!
The smallest of Columbus's fleet of ships was the Nina, captained by Vicente Aņes Pinzon, brother of Martin Alonzo Pinzon, the captain of the Pinta. The Nina was another caravel (ship) of 50 or 60 tons, and set out from Spain and may have carried four masts, which was unusual at the time. Although unusual, this extra mast made the Pinta the best of the three ships for sailing upwind (against the wind). The Nina had a length of 15 meters, a keel length of 12 meters, beam of 5 meters, and a depth of 2 meters.
