Established in 1872 Yellowstone National Park was the first established National Park in the United States. Encompassing 28,000 square miles, Yellowstone National Park is one of the largest protected ecosystems on the planet. An abundant diversity of plants and animals call this park home. Perhaps the best known feature of Yellowstone National Park are its thermal features which include guysers, mudpots and hot springs. With over 10,000 thermal features in the Greater Yellowstone Region, the area boasts the greatest concentration of these features to be found anywhere on the planet.
