| -' TERRORISM And what of Bin Laden and his boys? They are products of the Cold War. America created them and the Western v Eastern War (Cold War) created a lot of minor warriors who were promised a lot of things and ended up being shoved to the side as soon as the Iron Curtain Fell. Not only had that, During the Cold War many of these people where treated to undo horrors and game playing by Politicians. Why the Anger at the USA? Because the USA played some terrible games and hurt them - hurt them so much that now America (the Nation) is seen as a villain in their world view. Though it was America the Politicians who in the name of Freedom and Liberty for All that did these terrible things. If we were to put the shoe on the other foot we would be as angry and as prone to lash out and strike the enemy where it hurts. How does one fight the greatest Military Power on Earth? Guerrilla Warfare - a.k.a. Terrorism. Of course America is not all to blame, the old USSR and the rest of the world had their fingers in the Pie. For the sake of Simplicity let us divide the blame to The Eastern Nations and the Western Nations. The Western Nations had a big hand in reforming the Middle East. Soon after World War two they installed Israel in the old biblical Promise Land. Unfortunately this required ousting the residents that were occupying that Territory, Palestine. Define a raw deal and you would have Palestine. Since the installation of Israel, Palestinians have been giving the great run around. The Rest of the Old Persian Empire was pretty much divided up and given nice names like Afghanistan. The new boarders were Western in their placement giving no consideration to the tribal and cultural boundaries of the peoples who live in that region. The finding of Oil in that region was the Middle East's downfall, had they not been given such great wealth of petroleum the Middle East would have been pretty much ignored by the rest of the world. Sadly both the East and West is dependant upon Oil (Insert link to Oil Page here) and instead of working on finding new sources of energy that can be sustained and manufactured in their own countries, the Rest of the World seeks to pump and ship out the oil in the Middle East to their gluttonous "rich" cities. One of the Great ironies is that in Oil Producing Nations one still sees camels being used for everyday transportation of people and goods. We hear a tale of how the USA has personally funded, set up and promoted the same "terrorists" and "terrorist groups" to fight the Cold War and to promote Western Ideologies in a land where oil is abundant. How many times does one have to hear that Bin Laden was trained by the CIA before it dawns on them that the real bad guy is not Bin Laden, but the Good Ole US of A? Why Terrorism? Let us put this in the perspective of a school ground where the school yard bully stands nearly 6 feet tall, weighing in at twice the average weight of the rest of the kids. You are one of those kids who are always being used by and subjected to the quirky whims of the School Yard Bully. You are smaller, less powerful but you have had enough. Will you engage the bully in "honorable" fisticuffs? No, you will kick, scratch, bite and pretty much use the "dishonorable" fighting methods at your disposal in order to win. Why are the terrorists striking out at seemingly unrelated targets? If you know you can't win a battle on the School yard bully you will turn to vandalizing his bike, or kicking his dog or lashing out at some other special thing to the Bully. The so called Terrorists are in this for their lives. They see their way of life as threatened - in many cases their way of life has been destroyed, their people, their family their loved ones have been the political pawns in the World's global arguments. Afghanistan used to be a lovely place, speak to Afghan people who left when things started turning sour and they will tell you that their homeland was destroyed. Sure we can blame it on Al-Qaeda http://www.storm.ca/~ouelletr/x-ray/al-qaeda-history.htm , But Al-Qaeda is a product of the Cold War, is a product of the Western World meddling in the affairs of a people they neither understood nor cared to learn more about. Bin Laden is yet another product of that war as well http://www.msnbc.com/news/190144.asp?cp1=1 So what are we doing to make amends to our past mistakes? Why making war and bombing and arresting and doing the same things we did before, namely installing "our" idea of perfect government in the lands that we are "liberating". Yes there are terrorists, and yes there are terrorist groups, and yes there is a good reason to look at security and consider that America and the Western World has made a lot of enemies. But are we to believe that these terrorists are so smart that they can over power America and continue to need the policies and the constant reminders that the Terrorists are out to get us? The War on Terror is being fought as a conventional war. Nations fight wars, nations don't move around, are large enough in number to produce militaries. Thus you answer an attack of this nature with weapons and troops. A terrorist does not have one nation, they go around in small groups, are lightly equipped and use scare tactics and sneak attacks to get their punches in. Sending an Army, Navy, Air force and Marines against this sort of organization is ineffective and is mostly over kill. This is on par with using a sledge hammer to drive a tack in. It is interesting to consider that the WTC attacks lead to war on two nations which Bush and his buddies had already set their sites on. No coincidence there I guess. |
