According to Jemima Klingensmith:

Ruth F. Barnhart Tent No. 56, Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War, 1861-1865, was instituted in the Methodist Church in Pleasant Unity, PA on May 2, 1965, with 38 charter members.  All of these members had been contacted by Beatrice Burkholder, a granddaughter of Ruth F. Barnhart.

If Jemima remembers correctly, from stories told to her by Miss Burkholder, Mrs. Barnhart had been involved in the Underground Railroad during the Civil War.
