PARK BOARD

Members Present:
Linda Murphy, Carlton Doerner, Maria Taylor, Thelma Pettiford, Jeannine
Baxter, and Jeff Spencer.

Minutes were read and approved.
Pool Business
Pool Manager: Two applications for the Pool Manager Position
were received (Paul Miller & Tonya McClure) and reviewed by the board.
A motion was made (Taylor) and seconded (Pettiford) to hire Paul Miller.
Motion carried. Taylor is to notify candidates of decision.
A motion was made (Taylor) and seconded (Pettiford) to do a one year
trial of the job description requirements for the Pool Manager position
with amendments being made as required. Motion Carried.
The pool manager is to make two copies of the key to the front door
at the pool to give to the board.
Pool Staff: Discussion was held about responsibility of
hiring assistants. The board decided to allow the pool manager to hire
assistants.
The board learned an offer was extended to Amy Wilbanks. The board decided
to offer payment of $9.00 an hour instead of a salary. Jeremy Cornett will
continue to be on salary.
A motion was made (Doerner) and seconded (Spencer) that all lifeguards
need to file a copy of their certification with the Park Board before they
may begin working. Motion carried.
JTPA: The board discussed accountability of JTPA workers
and control issues of workers. The board decided to continue utilizing
the JTPA program with the understanding that Paul Miller and Linda Murphy
would discuss the boards needs and desires with a JTPA official before
the season opens.
Pool Uniforms: The board decided to require that pool
staff wear solid colored shirts (red or white) with some kind of identification
for manager and asst. manager put on it. (silk screen or badge). Options
were being looked into. Also Lifeguards would need same apparel, however,
allowing them tank tops as an option.
Pool Schedule: The Pool will open Memorial Day weekend
as usual. The pool will only have evening hours until Du Quoin District
#300 school gets out for the summer (tentatively June 11th) A motion was
made (Spencer) and seconded (Doerner) that the interim pool hours until
school gets out will be from 5:30pm - 7:30pm. Motion carried.
A motion was made (Doerner) and seconded (Baxter) to set the pool hours
as follows for the 1999 season. Motion carried.
Pool Admissions: The board decided to keep season passes
at the same price as last year.
$30.00 for a child pass
$35.00 for an adult pass
$70.00 for a family pass
A motion was made (Doerner) and seconded (Spencer) to set the single
session admission prices at $2.00 for an adult and $1.50 for children under
12. Motion carried.
A motion was made (Miller) and seconded (Doerner) that beginning Sunday
July 11th of the 1999 pool season, season pool passes will be reduced to
half price for the remainder of the season. Motion carried.
Pool Maintenance and Repair: Murphy contacted Lindell
Parrish about feasibility study on pool. Due to lack of money available,
it was decided that the gutters need fixing first. Guy Alongi advised Murphy
to bring request before City Council to get fund approval.
28 gallons of paint were purchased at a cost of approximately $1000.00
to paint the pool. Paul Miller will be doing the painting. Spencer volunteered
to help.
Park Business
Park Business: Discussion was held to determine best way
to account for moneys being paid for use of Park Pavilion and other revenues
that may come in. A motion was made (Pettiford) and seconded (Baxter) to
rent a Post Office Box for use by the Park Board. Motion Carried.
Miscellaneous: The board was asked to brainstorm ideas
on how to increase attendance for Saturday at the pool. Some early suggestions
were a volleyball league and to hire a DJ to play. Further deliberations
will follow.
Motion to adjourn was made by Carlton Doerner at 9:10pm and seconded
by Jeff Spencer. Motion carried.
The Park Board will meet next on Thursday, May 6th, 1999 at 7:00 p.m.
at Du Quoin City Hall.
