| The City of Du Quoin's system of
park lands are maintained and operated by the Du Quoin Park Board. The
Board of Park Commissioners, as provided by the City Charter, is charged
with the control and management of parks.
The Du Quoin Park Board is composed of ten non
paid individuals appointed by the Mayor of Du Quoin, and confirmed by City
Council, for three year terms. Board members are responsible for
setting policies and procedures which they feel will best benefit the park
areas and community, adopting a budget, and hiring and evaluating a Pool
Manager and its staff. Also, the board elects a president, vice president,
secretary, assistant secretary, and treasurer as officers of the Board.
We also look to cooperate with various community committees.

The Park Board is a committee of the City of Du Quoin. It is not a park
district, such as Carbondale. A park district has its own taxing power.
The Du Quoin Board of Park Commissioners has no such power.
The Park Board's budget includes revenue from
the City's Personal Property Tax Fund, Park and Pool Revenues, Private
Endowments, and Federal, State and Private grants.
The Park system of Du Quoin currently consists
of what is known as Keyes City Park, the Du Quoin Municipal Swimming Pool,
and soon the area formerly holding Wheatley School and its playground.
The board welcomes and encourages citizens of
Du Quoin to attend their meetings. To find out when and where meetings
will be held please check out the calendar. |
