The Western Maryland Health
System
Wellness Center and Allegany County Health Department are pleased to
announce
a
colorectal
cancer control program.
This
program
is designed to provide colorectal cancer screening, education,
treatment and
diagnosis to uninsured residents
of
Allegany
County who meet age and financial eligibility.
Who can participate?
·
Allegany
County Residents
·
Age 50-64
·
People under
50 years old with a personal or family history of colorectal cancer or
polyps.
·
Those
uninsured and with low income.
Information on screening....
The Colorectal Cancer Control
Program is
a program funded through the Cigarette Restitution program.
The Cigarette Restitution funds
are a
result of the Maryland Tobacco Settlement.
** Colorectal Cancer is
the second
leading cause of cancer death in Maryland.
** Getting screened is the
key to
fighting colorectal cancer in early stages.
** The risk of colorectal
cancer
increases with age. Any person over 50 years of age or those with
certain personal or family histories of colorectal cancer or polyps
should
begin a regular
colorectal cancer screening program.
Signs and Symptoms of
Colorectal
Cancer....
1) A change in bowel
habits.
2) Diarrhea, constipation, or feeling that the bowel does not
empty
completely.
3) Blood ( either bright red or very dark ) in the stool.
4) Stools that are more narrow than usual.
5) General abdominal discomfort ( frequent gas pains, bloating,
fullness
and/or cramps.
6) Weight loss with no known reason.
7) Constant tiredness.
8) Vomiting.
These symptoms may
be
caused by colorectal cancer or other conditions.
Remember.....
Colorectal cancer is one of the most curable forms of
cancer if
detected early !
