The Dungeon Wars
By accident, a growing number of humans discovered they had their own magical powers. Unlike the Order's wizards, these people had a wide range of magical skills that more closely resembled what the elves had once had. Again, there are numerous theological and scientific explinations for this, but there is not enough time to properly explain them all. These new magic users rebelled against the Order and sought a free and fair way of life.
Also at this time, an underground cult called the Fellowship of the One God rose to power. These heretics were largely responsible for the so-called Dungeon Wars starting, having placed the seed of revolution by their radical teaching long before.
A continent-wide civil war had begun, with the fate of humanity and the entire world at stake. The elves, still consumed in their own ethernal civil wars, hardly noticed it. The dwarves by now were almost extinct and sat on the sidelines watching.
The Nine Kingdoms of the New Order
The Dungeon Wars ended with the Order, now called the Old Order, being forced off of Alalsil completely. Croppell was the last territory the Old Order held on the continent, but the determined Croppellians managed to win their independence a century later.
The most powerful magic users, the leaders of the revolution, became the nobility and "ruling families" of the New Order. The Nine Kingdoms of the New Order overhauled the old way of life into a safe and protected haven where slavery and other human rights abuses with illegal. Each kingdom had a great deal of independence, although a central Council made the general rules and kept the continent united.
The Fellowship of the One God by now had become the predominant religion of humanity. Clergy and paladin serve to protect the people, acting as the police and law enforcement in general. Magic users became the backbone of what could best be called the military. For five hundred years, the union of clergymen and wizards have kept the peace on Alalsil. |
