| Colts Beat Perth In Warm Up Match 20.08.05 With a win over Forresters and a 10's tournament under their wing, the colts would take on Perth. This would be a warm up for not only the start of season Kirkcaldy game but also for the Melrose sevens, which takes place this Sunday. The Colts were one win and one lose against Perth from the following season coming into this game. 25 players were aloud in total, which meant that a lot of the younger players were implemented into the team. The two teams were even for the first half an hour or so, but it was only a matter of time before Perth broke, and break the did, after Gregor Hutt scrapped over for the try. Unfortunately, the game was tight with too many mistakes and too much off the Dunfy ball being turned over. Perth, to their credit, pulled it back and took the lead, leaving the Colts wondering what happened. There were many water breaks during the game, and many changes. Some of the new Colts who were subed on seemed to spark a come back, but back to back yellow cards for Stevie McColl and Liam Burnett, put the come back on hold and the visitors furthered there lead. It wasnt until winger Jonny Smart entered the game that the team seemed revitalised and started to attack Perth's line violently, splitting it open twice with runs from Jonny which were finished off after sneaky backhand passes. By this point the Colts had soaked up all Perths attacks and they had nothing left. The Game finished with a Colts victory and with notable performances from the forwards, who were equalled for large parts of the game, and a back line that had to bring their game up another level from the first half. This years team looks hungry, and with a large square of some 40 players, with experience and youth and just raw talent, the Colts will be tough to beat this season, And with Murrayfield in mind...they might not be. |
| Preview: Dunfermline Colts VS Kirkcaldy
25.08.05 Tonight marked the last preseason training session for the colts. As of 2pm on Saturday the new season will be kick started against Kirkcaldy, and that is a game the Colts are confident in winning, But the Kirkcaldy fixtures have taken on more importance due to the fact that Hillfoots has pulled out of the league. This means the games scheduled against Hillfoots will automatically go down as 50-0 for both Kirkcaldy and Stirling. Thus, the colts cannot afford a slip up against Kirkcaldy is they wish to finish top of the league. That is of course, if Stirling can put together a team with season. Some Changes have been made to the team from last Saturday. Hooker Neil Campbell starts while last weeks hooker David Foote moves to Flanker, Greg Valentine Moves from flanker to Scrum Half and Jonny Smart makes a start at outside centre, For Which should make for a very strong attacking backline. My Prediction: Colts by 20 points if Kirkcaldy are lucky. Jamie Irvine |
| Injury Update 18.09.05 With both colts teams playing at the weekend there was sure to be some injuries. From the past few weeks most of the Colts have played through illness as there is a mystery bug going out about the team and club. This showed on Saturday as winger Jonny Smart pulled out before the game to be dropped to the bench as he felt ill and only played the last 20 minutes of the match against Kirkcaldy. This was also the case with Flanker Kim McGregor although he managed to play the whole game. Also in the match against Kirkcaldy winger Duncan Campbell got stretcherd off and taken to hospital because he was illegally tackled after he scored a try. On to the B team now and Prop / Centre Matt Lloyd was taken to hospital after he fractured his shoulder for a second time this season he awaits doctors orders to see if he is fit to play rugby again. We wish Matt all the best and hope he makes a speedy recover. The B team match also saw young number 10 Scott walk off with a pulled hamstring. Other news Foote has a sore knee but theres nothing new there. Jonny Smart |
