Random Potterness...
This is basically where you can look at random facts about the next two books. I've seperated them into subcatagories for shits and giggles ;) and obviously easy access for what you are looking for when you are going info scrounging.
Dealing with the Potter's...
- Harry may end up with a pet in later books.
- Harry cannot use Dudley's computer to access the internet but according to JKR wizards havce a much cooler and more fun way of collecting information.
- Harry will Not be the new Minister of Magic.
- We'll find out more about Harry's grandparents, even if JKR says that it is not necessarily important to the plot.
- James and Lily's careers will become important to the upcoming plots.
- It is very important that Harry has his mother's eyes and Lily was good at charms.
- Something HUGE will be revealed about Lily.
- Lily's maiden name was Evans.
- James was a CHASER when he was on the Gryffindor team. The movie was wrong by saying that he was a seeker.
- James inherited a lot of money so he didn't need a well paying job.
James recieved his invisibility cloak from his father.
Dealing with the Weasley's...
- The "forgotten" Weasley cousin was not Icicle, heck, she's wasn't even really a Weasley. She was related to them through Molly's side and the girl was in Slytherin. The character was eventually replaced by Rita Skeeter after JKR concluded that she wasn't doing her job correctly. Her name was actually Mafalda.
- Ginny's the first girl to be born in the Weasley family for several generations. Her fisrt name is not Virgina it's actually Ginevra.
- Arthur has two brothers.
- Molly's maiden name is Prewett.
- The Weasley's were homeschooled for pre-Hogwarts education, like for maths, reading, ect.
Dealing with Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry...
The school in general...
- Some of the teachers do have spouses; this will become important in later books.
- The teachers do leave school for holidays (summer, chrimbo) except for Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Filch who always remain at the school.
- There will be no new nationalities of children at Hogwarts. This makes sense considering it is a British school.
- There are about 1000 students attending Hogwarts.
- Muggle school is not required for a child to have prior to attending Hogwarts.
The Students...
- Dean Thomas' father was killed by death eaters after he refused to join up with them. Niether Dean or his mother knew that Dean's father was a wizard. Due to his sudden dissappearance Dean's mum married and Dean was raised as a muggle.
Ex Students...
- Lupin does not have a twin.
- Sirius is not coming back but we will find out why JKR had to kill him in the first place.
- We'll find out what happened to Sirius' motorbike.
- Snapes worst fear/Boggart will become important to the plot as the books continue.
- More about the hatred between Snape and Sirius will be revealed.
- Appearently Snapes' patronus is important to the story too, but if JKR stated what it was it would give way to much away.
- We'll find out just exactly why Dumbledore trusts Snape.
Dealing with other tidbits...
In General...
- The happiest people do not become ghosts.
- The animal an Anamagi turns into reflecs their personality.
- Azkaban is located in the North Sea.
- You can do unfocused, uncontrolled magic without a wand but to do really good spells you need a wand.
- Hermione's cat is half Kneazle.
- Ron's owl is an elf owl. Possibly the world's smallest owl. It weighs merely 1.5 ounces and is only about 5-6 in long. It's voice is a high pitched squeaky whistle that sounds off rapidly. They eat mainly insects (cuz I think everything else is bigger than it) and few lizards and small mammals.
Elf Owls have rounded heads, a greenish/yellow bill, yellow eyes, and distinctive white eyebrows. They are grayish with gray to cinnamon-brown vertical streaks. Dorsally, they are grayish/brown with buff mottling. There are two distinct rows of white scapular and wing covert spots.
font face="dearJoe" size="5.5pt">Mythology...
- Merope Guant is named after the star which is named after Merope from the myths... and her myth is not so specific:
In Greek mythology, several unrelated women went by the name Merope (bee-mask later reinterpreted as honey-like or eloquent), which may, therefore, have denoted a position in the cult of the Great Mother rather than a mere individual's name:
Merope, one of the Heliades
Merope, foster mother of Oedipus, wife of Polybus
Merope, one of the Oceanids, a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys, mother of Phaeton by Helios or Clymenus
Merope, one of the Pleiades, she married a mortal, Sisyphus, and was thus the faintest star in the star cluster that bears their name. With Sisyphus, she had one son: Glaucus.
Merope of Khios, consort/daughter of Oenopion, linked with Orion (q.v.) who fell in love with Merope but Oenopion did not want the marriage to happen. Orion raped Merope. For revenge, Oenopion got Orion drunk and stabbed out his eyes, then cast him into the sea. Hephaestus took pity on the blind Orion and gave him a young boy as a guide. The boy guided him east, where the rising sun restored Orion's sight. Orion then decided to kill Oenopion, but Hephaestus had built the king an underground chamber. Orion couldn't find the king and went to Delos, where Artemis slew him
... the Great Mother... Merope Gaunt birthed Voldy... I see a connection there.
- In Norse mythology, the Fenrisulfr, Wolf of Fenrir, Fenris or simply Fenrir is a monstrous wolf, the son of Loki and the giantess Angrboa. Fenrir is bound by the gods, but is ultimately destined to grow too large for his bonds and devour Odin during the course of Ragnark. At that time he will have grown so large that his upper jaw touches the sky while his lower touches the earth when he gapes. After killing Odin he will be slain by Odin's son, Viarr, who will either stab him in the heart or rip his jaws asunder according to different accounts.
This wolf is what Fenrir Greyback is named after. He bit Remus and he attempted to devour Bill while still in human form. I hope that Bill is the closest thing to Odin but there's always that possiblity that she'll have Fenrir actually kill someone flat out in the books.
