Rob's Page
Click on Rob!
Rob is 9 years old. He was diagnosed with leukemia on September 25, 2000. I made this web page to keep you updated on his treatment. Rob began maintenance in October 2001. This is great! This means the chemo is working and there hasn't been a relapse. He now only gets spinals once every 3 months. It is a looooong 24 hours waiting for the results. He is scheduled to finish with the chemo treatments in February of 2003. After a 13 month absence, Rob has been able to return to school. He had a hard time getting his homework done at first. It would take him all evening and also the next morning. He can now get his homework done and still have time to play. Rob has been very brave through all he has gone through. It helps that the staff at Children's Hospital in Columbus is so wonderful. Just knowing that we have Dr. Nick on our side is comforting. He is there whenever you need him. He always takes the time to answer  my questions and then explain his answer. He has a huge heart and it shows in how he treats his patients and their families. We also have nurse Jackie, whom is Rob's nurse girlfriend. She was just starting on the hem/onc floor when Rob was diagnosed. They have been close ever since. Rob even requested her for his primary nurse, so he was her very first primary patient. When Rob is in the hospital, Jackie always brightens his day. I would like to thank everyone for being there for us through the good and bad times. It is astounding how many prayer lists Rob is on. You can never have too many prayers. Rob's next spinal will be mid April. Be sure to check back for the results. I wish for you to have good health and happiness.
Update:
     April 11,2002
Rob went into the hospital on Easter with a fever. He was only in for 3 days. Due to the virus causing the fever, his counts have dropped. He was temporarily back out of school, but is back in now. They also completely stopped his chemo during this time. He is now starting back on smaller doses. He went to clinic yesterday and had his port removed. He also had a spinal. The surgery went well. I am pleased to share the results of the  spinal. NO EVIDENCE OF LEUKEMIA!!!!! He will get his next spinal in July. He is feeling good even with the low counts. School is going to be an iffy thing for at least the next month. I am adding a picture of him getting a spinal to the picture page for anyone interested in seeing that. Enjoy the beautiful spring!
Update:
      July 8, 2002
Rob had another spinal done on July 3rd. I am happy to report....No evidence of leukemia!!!! He will have his next spinal in September. He is still taking chemo orally and intravenously. From the April update..... he still has not had high enough counts to return to 100% chemo. The i.v. chemo isn't going so well. We miss the port. The chemo is givin in the hand. This has not been as easy as it might sound. He has been getting at least 4 sticks each month. We are hoping when he goes at the end of the month things will go smoother. Thanks for all the love and prayers!
