King George V was born June 03, 1865 in London. He was the second son of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra of England.
He changed the royal name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor during World War I. He was known as the sailor king. Upon the death of his elder brother Albert Victor, the Duke of Clarence in 1892; he became heir to the throne. He married his brothers fiancee, Princess Victoria Mary of Teck. he became Duke of York in 1892 and became Prince of Wales in 1901 when his father was proclaimed king of england.
