in November 2000,
he
was the first Green in
the
history of Orange
County
whose candidacy
was
endorsed by a major
labor
union. |
"When
they endorsed Roberts, the Orange County Central Labor Council and Local
681 of the Hotel Employees and Restaurant Employees union (HERE) picked
a third-party candidate for the first time in their histories....'He hit
the right chords. He talked about reform, ending corporate welfare and
accountability in the educational system,' said John F. Earl, assistant
to the president of Local 681, which boasts more than 5,000 mostly Chicano
members.'He got a better response than most candidates that come before
the members.'"

"[N]one
of you have ever said a word about the hundreds of millions of dollars
in 'Corporate Welfare' that has flowed into the pockets of the Walt Disney
Company and other big developers during the past decade which has deprived
the Anaheim Union High School District the funds needed to ensure that
every child will have the means of obtaining an adequate education."
