The Radio Communications Agency booklet BR68 provides the following recommended Phonetic Alphabet. This is the one which you should use. Note the use of the word "should": you are not required to use these words, but you
MUST NOT use words which are obscene or insulting.

Sometimes it is necessary to use alternatives: e.g. my call sign  A7SPY would be given as Alpha Seven Sierra Papa Yankee, but I sometimes use similar  replacements if the other stations can't hear like Zebra for Zulu or Quarter for Quebec. It just depend on what you want to substitute it with.

Here is the recommended and universally recognized phonetic alphabets:

  A -ALPHA   N -NOVEMBER
  B -BRAVO   O -OSCAR
  C -CHARLIE   P -PAPA
  D -DELTA   Q -QUEBEC
  E -ECHO   R -ROMEO
  F -FOXTROT   S -SIERRA
  G -GOLF   T -TANGO
  H -HOTEL   U -UNIFORM
  I -INDIA   V -VECTOR
  J -JULIET   W -WHISKEY
  K -KILO   X -X-RAY
  L -LIMA   Y -YANKEE
  M -MIKE   Z -ZULU

These well-known words are very useful when conditions make it difficult for the receiving station to copy what is being  transmitted. Just using the letters when spelling out your name will almost certainly cause confusion: e.g. the letters pee, bee and vee sound almost the same, but it is easy to distinguish between Papa, Bravo and Victor. You will find that amateurs from other countries have interesting but different names.

All you need to do now is memorize the list.
