Tairya scratched Cuprath's headknobs affectionately.  Cuprath crooned with appreciation, and Tairya grinned.  The Weyrleaders of Dragon Soul had said Cuprath had not been an affectionate dragon before, but the creature was most definately the most soothing, playful, affectionate dragon Tairya had ever encountered.  It probably had something to do with Cuprath being abadoned.......alone.  Tairya boiled with fury whenever she thought that someone would so ruthlessly disregard her beloved creature.

You are so kind. Cuprath said in Tairya's mind. I am glad you came to me.

So am I Cuprath.  I can't imagine a life without you in it anymore. Cuprath leaned farther into Tairya's arms.  As she petted her dragon, Tairya thought about what it had been like Impressing her.  The Weyrleaders had warned her that abadoned dragons would put up something of a fight before allowing themselves to be Impressed.  They said these dragons were depressed, and wouldn't immediately want someone new.  So Tairya had gone into the 'abadoned dragon caves' warily, and as she approached the place where Cuprath was, she certainly hadn't expected to hear the green screaming her name into her mind before she saw the dragon.  Tairya reveled in the feeling of the dragon, staying at Dragon Soul for several days, learning the basics, before returning "home".
Where would home be?  Tairya had already decided she didn't want to return to Rathlin.  The place didn't call to her like she'd expected it to.  Instead, she was going to travel to a new place, as much in need of fighting beasts as Rathlin was, only this place was somewhere Tairya wanted to be.  It was called Dawn Sisters.
How lovely the name...
I can't wait to go there. Cuprath said quietly, and I'm glad we can go together.  The Other never wanted to do anything with me. Cuprath mused, and Tairya comforted her.  "The Other" was how Cuprath referred to her previous rider.  Tairya didn't know who he/she had been, but she was furious at the person for leaving Cuprath all alone.  From the way Cuprath talked, it didn't seem like this person had died, but had truly abadoned her.

Never mind lovey, we're together now.
I know. Cuprath said, and began crooning again.  I am happy for that.
"So am I."  Tairya said, sighing.
So am I.
back....
