    Duties:

  • Developed systems to perform experiments and collect data.
  • Designed electronic hardware for infrared detection and RFID tracking.
  • Fabricated printed circuit boards by exposing photo-sensitized boards, chemical etching, and hand soldering.
  • Wrote software responsible for hardware management, data logging and analysis, and emulating experimental results using statistical models.

    Qualifications:

  • Algorithm design: Utilized binary arithmetic to isolate signal source. Condensed rapid repetitive entries and sorted nested data in real-time. Managed multiple timing charts using a single timer. Efficiently calculated, sorted and ranked angles. Reduced hard disk usage. Increased simulation speed 3000 fold.
  • Error reduction: Isolated hardware limitations that triggered false readings. Programmed software to monitor unlikely conditions and minimize data loss.
  • Multithreading: Integrated 16 RFID readers with infrared activators. Controlled each reader independently using ActiveX classes. Utilized multithreading to maximize hardware performance.
  • GUI Interface: Displayed status of each flower/feeder/RFID reader using color coded icons. Simplified access to adjustable aspects hardware.
  • Circuit Fabrication: Coupled photo-transistors and infrared diodes, boosted signal strength with BJT amplifiers. PCB design, chemical etching, and soldering. Budget tracking, cost forecasting, and time management.


  • Research Assistant (Ref:# 05010601)
    Status: Position is Filled

    Created a simulator in MATLAB to model analog and digital circuits. Adapted a newly developed algorithm to calculated electrical properties of a circuit. Tested over 40 circuit configurations of various complexities.

    Duties:

  • Created software to simulate analog and digital circuits.

  • Converted all software to C, resulting in a 300 time increase in simulation speed.

    Qualifications:

  • Increased Performance: Built net-list parser to reduce setup time. Converted all programs into C, resulting in a 300 fold increase in simulation speed.
  • Algorithm Design: Utilized Jacobian technique and LU Decomposition to minimize computation times. Initialized networks with default values for faster convergence.
  • Reverse Engineering: Examined pSpice and hSpice source code. Isolated problems with transistor models. Developed simplified routines increasing accuracy of simulation.
  • Report Writing: Wrote formal report outlining effectiveness of new technique.
