DS FAQ
Q: What is the Nintendo DS?
A: It is a handheld currently being developed by Nintendo that has two screens (one of them a touch screen), online capabilities, and the ability to play GBA games.

Q: How much will the system cost?
A: On September 21st, 2004, Nintendo announced that the Nintendo DS would retail in American stores at $149.99.

Q: How much will the games cost?
A: Again, no one is sure at the moment. Most stores that take pre-orders are placing the cost at $50/game. That seems a little high, so $40 might be a better bet.

Q: When will the Nintendo DS be released?
A: In North America, the system will be released on November 21st, 2004 just in time for the United State's Thanksgiving weekend - it's biggest shopping weekend of the year.

In Japan, the Nintendo DS will be released on December 2nd, 2004 marking the first time Nintendo has released a system first outside of Japan.

Q: Will both screens have back-lighting?
A: Yes, both screens will have a back-light, allowing you to play in the dark.

Q: How long will the battery last?
A: Nintendo insists that the battery will last for up to 10 hours. There is also a sleep mode that allows you to turn off your game, but not lose all the data, without using up much battery power.

Q: What type of battery does the DS use?
A: The DS has a built in lithium ion battery that, once, drained, can be plugged into an outlet and recharged.

Q: Will the Nintendo DS be able to play old Game Boy games?
A: Sorry, but the DS will only be able to play DS-specific games, as well as GBA games.

Q: Will I be able to download new game-content from the internet onto my game?
A: The short answer is, No. Nintendo's storage medium will only be writable, meaning you will not be able to download any content. The intended reason is to keep piracy at a minimum with the Nintendo DS.

Q: Will the touch screen scratch and wear out easily?
A: It's pretty hard to damage touch screens, even on PDAs, which get a lot of use. The manufacturer makes them pretty durable.

Q: Is this the next GameBoy?
A: No, it is a third pillar according to Nintendo that won't interfere with the GBA.

Q: Which is more powerful, the N64 or the DS?

A: No one is sure because Nintendo hasn't officially released the specifications for the DS, but it seems that the DS has a slight edge.

Q: Which is more powerful, the PSP or the DS?
A: Definitely the PSP. Even without the specifications for the DS, it is a definite 100% that the DS is weaker, unless Nintendo surprises us in some way before the system's launch.

Q: Are there any other features the DS has?
A: There is a built-in microphone input so you can possibly command your characters in the game or talk with other players. There is also stereo sound (two speakers).

Q: What is the storage medium for the DS?
A: The DS' storage medium is a proprietary card made by Matrix. The cards can 1 Gigabit (128 Megabytes) of data. They are most likely not re-writeable
