HISTORY

The Dripping Springs Chapter, NSDAR, was organized on December 10, 1970, under the direction of Organizing Regent, Bettina Pearson Higdon Burns, as the 74th Chapter in Alabama. There are  now  98 members.

The name, Drippings Springs, was selected  because of its beauty, and because it is one of the oldest historic sites in Cullman County.

Before white men ever came to present day Alabama, native Americans crisscrossed the area on hunting and trading expeditions, creating many trails. One of those trails was between present day Cullman and Battleground, Alabama.

The trail passed by a spring which dripped water from a large rock formation. The trail forked at the spring, one going northwest, the other southwest. The spring became a favorite stop and camping area for the many travelers that passed along the trail. The spring eventually became known as Dripping Springs. A post office and main road later carried the name.
