| Songs--May 2006 Nathan Coppedge A song--sad rebellion Nothing to see but white commotion bilging clouds and lengths of ocean How to set out to change the times when everyone cares about nickels and dimes I rose out of bed at a quarter till three-e-e but the world was dead, as dead as can be-e-e Try to make something with your ha-a-ands All they give you is lies and demands I tried to grow taller than all the people in suits As though in the clouds theres a better view But soon I turned back to my low lonely road Is this the answer or just another secret code? I go down the street where theyre selling comestibles truck loads of vegetables, bargains and melons None of those people has seen the sky shatter... Give the world time and it runs away with you All the false pretense, garbage and missiles Give someone flowers and they think you are lucky As though in a giving world, no people living Who knows how to make a living except by following bread crumbs and out-waiting the city Grow old and die, but do not comply, theres still a little rebellion... --5/16/06 Poems 2006 May and post ==============Return to Poetry Main=============== |
