| Transformations: The Door The Road The Keys I see alphabets as containing a divine order, maintaining a belief that while basic truths can be derived by analysing words, so more universal meanings can be derived by analysing letters, and the graphic correspondences between them. My work here is founded on a belief that lifes ultimate meaning, aside from that contained by language, is death, with an ancillary belief that language sustains all other meanings. That principle, that lifes learning is the discovery of a void and an absence, and is about making the choice to journey into the fearful unknown, where language breaks down, is represented by the Door, which opens and closes. A letter like pi, which resembles a door, comes to signify the journey into the unknown, the primeval, the primitive, the paradoxical (paramount, totality of the individual). The number 16... Within the operation of the door, which is the life mechanism, is a journey, symbolized by a road. The letter resembling a road diminishing into the distance is lambda. The idea that it is a sign of branching, of life choices (and of schisms in the many-worlds model) is supported by the fact that the letter before, kappa, and the letter after, mu, are branching constructions and may represent respectively the interior, intuitive, transcendent (choice, path, or distinction) and the exterior, worldly, fated (choice, path, or distinction). With the branching path defined as a road which goes either into the self from lambda to kappa on the way to alpha, or into the world from lambda to mu on the way to omega, I can begin to define the symbolic import of Greek in the context of this particular perspective. More mysterious are the keys, which show the graphic relationship between one letter and its relatives. I see these as codes which can be entered at the Door in order to recieve knowledge from the depths of the unknown. Each key has a wealth of meanings, just as any set of letters has numerous interpretations. I found that many of these sets are suited to work as a series, with a particular order that reflects a kind of cosmic evolution. It is only because of this principle that I decided that these could be applied as keys. Because each must have a significance, and because significance is found at the Door, on the brink of being and non-being, these series are suited to be applied as keys. To begin with I made sure I had a seperate key for each letter of the Greek alphabet (hence 24 primary keys). It will be more interesting to find what further keys may be derived, and if these other keys begin to hold more meaning for me or not. What is the ultimate key? What limited set of keys explains most efficiently a host of meanings? These are meant as points of departure for those seeking something by way of divination.
