"Dozier" is a variant english version of the original french name of "Dauge". It had been found with various spellings including Doudge, Doser, D'Ozier, Dozer,Dozar, and Dozier.

The deed of land was
granted by William and Sarah Dozier, January 29, 1848. D.M.
White, J.P., a true copy certified by Robert Brandon, Clerk of
the Church - first clerk.
William 1.married Sally Combs 01 July 1820, in Clark (or Christian) County, KY. and 2.settled in Callaway County in 1830.
A search of the Bureau of Land Management - General Land Office Records did not reveal any original land patents under the spelling of Dozier. A search under " Dozer " revealed a land patent through the Franklin County land office, in 1827, Spetember 12th, proving they were in Missouri before 1830. Sarah was listed in the 1870 census age 67, and 1880 census age 77, living with their son, James H. Dozier. Her death date is unknown.
Callaway County Weekly Gazette, issue ?? reported "Mrs. Sally Dozier, abt 84 died 22 Oct 1887.
She was the daughter of:
Elizabeth PAYNE (d/o William & Mary GRYMES Payne), b 23 Dec 1779, Loudoun Co, VA, d Oct 1834, m 26 Aug 1796, Clark Co, KY (Clark Co MB; Paynes of VA p. 275 has "1797") to Benjamin Bullitt Combs (s/o Cuthbert & Sarah EVANS Combs, Sr.), d Sep 1834, by whom she had: Polly Combs (m Paul EVANS), Sally Combs (m William DOZIER), Cuthbert Combs, William Combs, Eli Combs, Clarissa Combs and Narcissa Ann Combs (Christian Co, KY Records).
