ABOUT THE GALLERY
Drumbeats
Afrika Art Gallery strives to
deliver a stimulating and challenging program of exhibitions,
seminar, workshops, and exchange programs, combining a strong historic collection with lively contemporary
works. The Gallery is a leading light for the development of
exciting and engaging interpretation methods, promoting active
multi-sensory exploration of art. The
name Drumbeats Afrika is an adaptation from the title of the the artist's
solo exhibition of sculptures and drawings collaborated by the
National Gallery of Art in 1996. Drumbeats,
within the ambit of African cultural parlance, connotes the feelings
of excitement and celebration, especially at festivals. In Africa, drumbeats communicates in language deeper and more profound
than mere words. Like
the traditional talking drum, works at the 'Drumbeats Afrika Gallery
and Studios', re-echo and arouse feelings of nostalgia for the past,
expectation for the present and hope for the future, messages of
justice and injustice; birth and death; war and peace are replete in
the artist's production. In Drumbeats Afrika, we celebrate life
through the Arts.
