![]() Hi everyone, welcome to my very own little cyber niche. My name is Janet, and I've been working since 2003 at a neighboring town library. Most of that time has been spent as an LTA (Library Technical Aide) in the Fiction/Audiovisual department, but due to a major renovation project, the Fic/AV department merged with the Non-Fiction/Reference department in the beginning of 2007. I am now an Adult Services LTA. I expect I will come to know the Dewey Decimal system quite intimately. I split my days at work between acting as a "Roving Librarian," which is pretty much exactly what it sounds like; manning the Info Desk, where Im the first person patrons meet when they enter the lobby; and working our Service Desk. I also assist in our services to homebound patrons, help plan and solicit donations for our Summer Reading Program, stock books for our shelves at the train station, serve on multiple committees, and take my turn in creating book and window displays. This is going to sound incredibly corny, I know, but I really do love my job. My coworkers and my boss are terrific. I especially enjoy all the different types of questions we help answer. One minute I can be helping a patron choose the perfect selection for her book club, and ten minutes later Im shepherding another patron through books on salt-water aquariums. Some days a patron wants a good book to read, and other days someone needs to know how to screen in her gazebo. I learn something new every day. In my personal life, I lived with my best friend Liana for a year before moving into a very nice little one-bedroom apartment exactly one building over from our old place. Just enough of a move to be a hassle--pack it up, move it 30 feet, and unpack it. When I have some down time, chances are you'll find me curled up somewhere with a good book. At last count, my "Must Read" list reached over 12 pages. Occupational hazard, I suppose. I also enjoy listening to country music and am a rabid fan of Cartoon Network's Family Guy series. I've accumulated a hodge-podge of cool links, not only to other areas of my website, but to my friends' and great commercial sites as well. Click on the "Links" button below to check them out. Speaking of links, I am so proud of myself for finally getting my blog up and running (Click here if you're interested). I'm also on MySpace (Again, click here if you're interested). By the way, I apologize for the cumbersome ad banners, but since I'm unwilling to pay for the pleasure of having a website (me? cheap? never!), we're stuck with them.
