David J. Rovinsky, Ph.D.
Hi there!  My name is Dave, and I live in Asuncin, Paraguay.  How I came to live here is a complicated story, since I was born and raised in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.  I think it all began when I went away to college.  I have a bachelor's degree in government and Canadian Studies from St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.  Along the way, I spent a summer learning French at the Universit du Qubec Chicoutimi, and then spent a year at Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario.

After graduation, I spent two years living in Quebec City, Canada, where I earned a master's degree in political science from Laval University.  When I finished, I spent the next several years in Washington, DC, where I earned a Ph.D. in international relations from The Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, at The Johns Hopkins University.  While in Washington, I also spent a year as a country analyst at the National Marine Fisheries Service, the American fisheries ministry.

As I was finishing my doctorate, I spent a year teaching political science at Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, and another year teaching political science at Siena College, a small Catholic college in the northern suburbs of Albany, New York.

I then left Siena to work for my present employer, who after my initial training sent me to work in So Paulo, Brazil, before sending me onward to Paraguay.

In addition to the hours and hours I spend at work, my hobbies are computers and the Internet, short-wave radio, reading, learning foreign languages, and travel.  I think my love of those last two things is what led me to my present line of work.  Despite the occasional inconveniences, I love living in South America, and I'm enjoying exploring the continent as time and resources permit with my wife and stepdaughter--the most important legacy of my time in Brazil!

Please feel free to meander about these pages to learn more about me, my interests, and my present home, Paraguay.

Incidentally, this website will be pretty much all text ... HTML is as foreign to me as Guarani; my goal is to convey information, and as a long-time fan of the text-only browser Lynx, I firmly believe that the best web pages are "Best Viewed With Any Browser!"
