Bio Sketch
Dro M. Abrahamian
Dro M. Abrahamian with over thirteen yeas of successful
experience has recently established himself as a fundraising consultant. Dro
has supported Major Gift Fundraising in the higher education and health care
sectors and has developed a strong leadership role in Development Services,
specializing in prospect identification, evaluation, research and
prospect management.
Throughout his career, Dro has initiated a unique perspective in bringing a
proactive customer-focused service to the
organizations he has served in terms of
Prospect Research, Gift Processing,
Acknowledgements, Donor Relations and Database Management.
Dro entered the field of fundraising as a Prospect
Researcher for Wayne State University in 1991. With a Masters degree in
Library Science, Dro used his knowledge of
business resources and quickly developed a
keen sense of major gift practices to help grow the
universitys fundraising operations. Dro was able to formalize
a proactive process supporting the major gift fundraising efforts of the
schools of Law, Business, Science, and
worked with the School of Pharmacy for its $17 million campaign, successfully
completed in 2002.
In 1998, Dro was asked to lead the
Moves Management process
at the Detroit Medical Center. As the Prospect Tracking and Research Manager,
Dro coordinated the cultivation efforts of a nine-hospital system with
multiple sites, separate databases and
independent affiliates. Teaming with the major gift officers for Childrens
Hospital of Michigan, Sinai-Grace, Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan, Huron
Valley Sinai, as well as Karmanos Cancer Institute and Wayne State School of
Medicine, Dro was able to
successfully strategize with each, forming collaborative business practices
for the group.
In 2001, as Director of Development Services for the
Beaumont Hospital Foundation, Dro established a Prospect Research and Moves
Management process, training several
assistants and providing guidance over a Development Service Team, consisting
of Gift Processing, Database Management, Donor Relations, and
Prospect Research. It was in
this setting that Dro was able to forge
stronger communication lines
between the Development Service providers
themselves and the front-end fundraisers they served.
With the system in place
at Beaumont, Dro moved on to St. John
Health Foundation in 2002 and as
Director of Development Services, again
established a Prospect Research and Moves
Management process for a complex
multi-hospital system including St. John,
Providence, Macomb, Oakland and River District hospitals. At St. John, Dro was
able to ready the institution for a $40
million goal in five years by identifying and qualifying 4,000 major gift
prospects.
In 2004, Dro felt that it was time to bring his
passion for promoting the back office support for
fundraising to the forefront. Known in Detroit as a top Prospect Researcher
readily offering advice and mentorship, and continuously making presentations on
Development Services issues nationwide for
organizations such as the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Association
for Healthcare Philanthropy and the
Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement, Dro embarked on
employing his skills and knowledge in a consultant capacity. Creative and
flexible, Dro is very excited about doing what has always come naturally for
him, using the most current information gathering techniques, well defined
processes and sound judgment to help non
profit organizations improve performance and achieve their fundraising goals.
