| The website is designed to help you understand how polluting rivers, lakes and oceans will affect our future. 70% of our Earth is comprised of water. Water is definitely the most important natural resource on Earth. Without it there would be no life on Earth. Most people know this but still everyday people all over the world disregard this precious resource that we humans live off. Our drinking water is adversly affected. Water pollution occurs when an excess amount of minerals (e.g. washing detergents) is added to a large body of water. Humans create most of the water pollution by littering and sometimes it is not intentional. A huge cause of accidental polluting is by oil spills this effects marine life greatly. Many animals can die by breathing in oil. Water gets thick which can be a lot of trouble for animals such as the tortoise or penguin since they need to surface to breathe. Sometimes water pollution can be enviromentally caused through such elements as rain. This can happen when rain streams fertilizer from a field into a larger body of water, which consequently harms marine life. Most water pollution in streams and lakes is by pollution we can't control easily. Water pollution sometimes is created by humans and enters the water through weather. An example of this could be someone littering onto the ground and the wind pushes it into the water. Why do people litter you ask? This happens because some lazy citizens can't even bother to walk to the nearest bin. To find out more information about how this effects our Earth visit my colleagues website Ground Pollution in my links. Due to water pollution, we have lost the ability to use water for recreational purposes. To find out more information about this, visit my colleagues website "Ground Pollution" in my links. Many organisms are being affected by water pollution and dying off at a high rate. This can alter ecosystems by harming and destroying wildlife, plants and fish. Some fish are dangerous to eat because many of them have taken in mercury that we have added into the water. Various other types of seafood are poisonous and if we eat them we can get diseases like hepatitis which affects the liver. If we do not reduce the amount of pollution that is increasing in rivers, seas, lakes and oceans in the near future all life on Earth will die. So next time you litter think, is it really worth being lazy to end humanity? So recycle, don't litter and make the future a good one for all of us. A solution to this problem would be to think world-wide but act locally which means if you just help water pollution near where you live it will help the whole world.
