Notes in bold are corrections

  • It was built in 1888 by Barnesville's first postmaster (by the name of Hightower)
  • It has been pink for a long time (but we don't know exactly how long, it is considered it's 'historic' color.)
THIS IS A MYTH!  We found an area in the attic where the was an addition to the house so the original shingles with some paint still on paint.  The house was painted pink 6 years ago, the green trim was added about 2 years ago.
  • There was once a garage/barn  where we want to build the garage
  • We have two apple trees and two pear trees in the back yard that should produce fruit
  • There's a door frame under the drywall from the office space to the unenclosed patio
  • There's a way to make the space behind the master bedroom into a bedroom with access from the first landing (We aren't sure this is entirely accurate...the floor of that space doesn't seem to go down that far...but we can make a small room in it, bigger if we add dormer windows to make it wider.)
  • There used to be a fireplace in the upstairs bedroom, which is now a bathroom. It was removed to put in a closet (a very long closet!)
  • The people that the previous owner bought it from told him they could see the back yard from the front door when they bought the house for $13K
  • The fenced area in the back yard (which we will use as a dog run for now) used to be a chicken coup so things should grow there really well...we may eventually put up a separate dog run so we can put a garden in the fenced area -- we wouldn't have to worry about rabbits or deer, then!

Added 6/2000:

  • The kitchen used to be shorter, it has been added onto, along with the dormers in the back of the second floor.
  • The fireplace in the living room used to be a double fireplace into the dining room.
