Conserving Energy and
Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emission
Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Aims:
  1. To develop students' communication skills in oral and written
      English in this field or topic.
  2. To explore and develop background knowledge.
  3.  To foster students' awareness of the importnace of conserving
      energy.

Objectibes:
students will be able to
  1. Know the importance of energy.
  2. Read charts.
  3. Read factual texts.
  4. Identify different types of energy.
  5. Discuss the concept of greenhouse gas effect.


Studdents may have better knowledge on this topic in their L1.  In that case, this unit should increase their confidence and motivate them to do some extra research on this topic.

Activities
1.  Think -> Pair -> Share
     
     Students to think of words to put in the blanks, and guess what
     they are going to learn in this new unit.

    _________ not only helps the planet, 
    it also reduces your ___________ bills.

    (Better to use OHT)
     Think individually first, then check with the person next to you,
     then share with another pair.
2.  Find 5 things in common

     Students to think of things they do to save energy.  Talk to the
     person next to you and find 5 things in common.

     "I'm saving energy by ~"
     (give students some example sentences first)
3. Sentence Pairs  "9 things we can do to save energy"

    Join beginnings and ends by talking in pairs.

4. Sequencing activity

     Renewable resources and non-renewable resources.

     The text for this activity will be up soon too!!!
5. Jigsaw reading and completing charts activity 
    for 16 students or more

    * Form groups of 4 students.  These groups are the home groups.
    * Students move to study groups to study and bring back the
       knowledge to their home groups.  There should be 4 study
       groups and each group study different aspects of Energy.
    * Students return to their home goups and complete the chart.
      Each home group should have all the information from sheet
      A,B,C and D.
