| A little while after that we decided to play another show. The town we live in is small and there are not too many places a band could play at. But we found a place on Main Street. It was a place that was mainly used for parties and stuff like that. So we rented it for a night. We made out flyers and advertised for the show. From what people were talking there was gonna be a huge crowd there, we were all very excited about the show. So we rehearsed for the show and was ready for it. The night before the show the city fire marshall called us and said the show has to be cancelled because they had heard about the huge crowd that was going to be there and the buildings insurance policy would only cover up to 30 people. So here we were, we had all these people coming to watch our show and has been cancelled, we were very upset ! We started searching for a place to play the show and had less than a day to find one. We looked all night and and could not come up with anything. All of us were very dissappointed because we had a commitment to all those people who had decided to come and see us but we couldn't do anything about it. But we didn't cancel the show yet. We looked all day the next day trying every place we could think of. Then the light bulb appeared and we said ,"we could play in the Arcade and party room at mama joes". So we called the guy who owned it and he said that would be kool. So at the last minute it worked out. It was 3:00pm and the show was scheduled to start at 7:pm. So we went to the place it was supposed to have been and put some flyers up telling it was gonna be at the arcade. Then we loaded all of our equipment, took it down to the arcade and set it up. We ran a sound check and everything sounded kool. Just in time for the show. There was a huge crowd for such a small town. So many people showed up that all of them could get in to see the show. It was so awesome. We felt like we were rock stars. The responce to our music was incredible. After that we continued to rehearse. Then one night Josh was at home playing his guitar and came up with a riff that was so awesome,he went up to Adkins's house at like 12:00am to let him hear it. Adkins liked it alot, and he had been writing on some lyrics that he thought would fit the riff well. They wrote on it all night, then by morning they had wrote Who I Am. The next rehearsal Josh and Adkins presented the song to the band. Rob and Napier was amazed. We put the song together, Rob wrote the bass and Napier put the drums on it. It took us a while to get it to sound right cause it was the most complex song we had ever written. After about a week of the song was finished and it sounded great. It had such a strong and sharp sound. Alot different than the songs we had wrote in he past. Who I Am really made us appreciate the band alot more. The responce from it was great, people seemed to really dig it. It was a big step for Driven. Winter started to roll around and we were in a garage again. We searched for a place to play but no luck so we had to get a kerosene heater to put in the garge to keep warm, but it was still really cold. And every every time we practiced the cops would show up and tell us to stop playing. But we kept right on playing anyway. Then after about the 25th time they had came and told us to stop playing they said if we have to come up here and tell you guys again to stop playing we will be forced to take you all to jail. Everyone got a kick out of that. But there was nowhere else we knew of to play. We had thought about building a place to rehearse, kinda like a little studio, but that was gonna cost a whole lot to build. Then Josh's dad came up with an idea. He owned a house out in the middle of nowhere. And nobody was living in it. He talked it over with his family and everyone thought it would be ok. The only thing we had to do to play there was keep up the yard and pay the electric bill. We could rehearse there any time of the day without disturbing anyone. We were so happy about getting the house cause we could rehearse alot more, day or night. That gave us more time to focus on the songs we were writing. Adkins had been writing on a song that dealt with school shootings. The song was based on how when there is a school shooting or anything like that, people blame it on Music, Books, and Video Games. And what we are saying is before you put the blame on music, books and video games, take a look at yourself. Maybe you are the reason these things are happening. It is something that we take very seriously. An artist talent should not be ridiculed for something they have nothing to do with. |
