You can now visit our soundclick page. Just one song up now ("The 8th"), but we're going to get some tracks from the new record up there for listening. Don't forget to rate us "hot" since we all feel we're pretty damn hot.

I am making an update on the website. I am updating away. It's fun to update the website. But not fun enough to update as much as it should be. UPDATING. UPDATING! UPDATING !@#$.
9/7/04
Many of our older fans will remember a golden period of time, way back in the late winter/ early spring of 2004 when there was no real news to update, but Tommy would update every few days with very little to say, yet it would always seem to go on for awhile as if there actually might be news. A relapse to this time period is very nearly upon us... what with recording the new CD and all, there really isn't a whole lot to report. Sure I could come on here after every session and be like "Whoa, the vocal take on 'My Last Misery' was like, so, sublime man. It totally reminded me of when Jerry Cantrell did that vocal thing on Alice In Chains Unplugged and stuff. And we got this way awesome guitar sound on this new one that is totally, like, influenced by that way sweet stuff Beck did when he was, like, all about cool stuff, you know?" but that would be a waste of everyone's time, especially mine. Perhaps even moreso than posts like this. In 6 months no one's going to care about a song we recorded 6 months earlier, but they surely will still be amused by ramblings from times of yore.

Contrary to rumors nobody's been spreading, Drinking Mercury is alive and well.
We've been working on a new cd that's coming along splendidly. Much more acoustic based than our last outing. But very good. We'll post some MP3's pretty soon of the new stuff. Yes.

The show on Saturday at Hattie's open house went very well indeed. Thanks to Hattie for inviting us, and a big thanks to Josh Ryan (from 2 Minute Nothing) for filling in on the drums cuz our lovely Kevin had to be in Mt. Pleasant for the evening. A good time all around. Drinking Mercury's next plan is to record an acoustic EP to follow up our succesful "The Virgin EP" that was released in January, so stay tuned.

The show yesterday was a great one. Thanks to Kisha Moore for graduating so we
could play at your open house, and thanks to the valiant Mercuryheads that made
their way out to hear us play. Whoo!
6/11/04
Oh yeah... we've been a band for approximately 4 years sometime this week (roughly.) Wonderful!

I'm Not Scared, I Felt Like This On My Way Home...
Looks like we're on our way home beloved Mercuryheads. A new phase in Drinking Mercury history is about to begin, everyone gather round. Although... I can't say any groundbreaking sound will debut at our next show (we actually have one! Sunday! Laura's Open House!) but it's an open house, so we've gotta keep it fairly crowd pleasing. No 15 minute instrumentals in 17/9 this time. But at Kevin's open house next year... oh yeah.

It looks like my mousepad has leprosy. I should probably stop using it. Oh man... there goes my finger... and the rest of the hand. Well... how am I supposed to play guitar now...

Anyone ever thought about what a razorblade suitcase really would be? That thing would suck to carry around. Mr. Business Man's suit would be all shredded and he'd be bleeding everywhere during the business meeting. And what the hell is a 16 Stone? Don't get me started on The Golden State you ingrateful dead. Man that was some good wordplay.
5/12/04
So... what's going on? I just wanted to know if... oh. No! It's not like that at all! I was just wanting to hang out, find out what was going on. It's been like, so long since everyone was all around and stuff and... please don't go. I'm so lonely. All I have left is my Ratt records now. Oh well... it's not that bad I guess.

So, if given a choice between the two, would one rather have Drinking Mercury become a heavy rock band with jazz leanings, or a heavy jazz band with rock leanings? Or if neither of those float your boat, would you rather us record an album of Dream Theater covers or New York Dolls covers? Or should we focus on being fun oriented, with most of our songs being reworked Jefferson Starship songs? Leave your thoughts in the GUESTBOOK!!!

Michael got a job at Goodwill in Lansing on Saginaw (next to Target, across from Lansing Mall) so everyone should go in, say hey, then buy some old button up shirts and search for cool oddities (I(Tommy) got a badass Barry Manilow T-shirt at Goodwill not too long ago.) Michael's living the dream, it's a happy day for everyone that's ever had a dream come true.
In other news, we'd like to direct everyone to our good friends Two Minute Nothing, who are playing at The Net in Lake Odessa Saturday (April 17) evening. Tis their last show with the beloved (Mexican) rhythm gweetarist, Timmy Rodriguez. He needs a fond farewell. We love him. At least I do... and I let him borrow my amp and he takes good care of it. Finally, our beloved drummer Kevin turns 17 on Saturday as well. So after you're done wishing Tim a teary farewell seek out the K-dog, give him a birthday greeting, and french kiss him 17 times. God knows I will. Peace.

Somewhere I have heard this before
In a dream of memory restored
As a defense I'm neutered and spayed
What the hell am I trying to say?
Ten years later, you're still not forgotten. Who cares what kind of tasteless ripoffs appeared in your wake; all we need do is listen to what you did and they all fade away. Thank you Kurt. We love you so much.

Good evening. Actually, it's morning. But it's bound to be evening somewhere. Our large fanbase in Guatemala is probably seeing this at evening. Mmhm. It's all in the frame of reference, man. Relativity, yo. Let's just say that Newton knew what he was talking about.
Liquid for thought.
3/26/04
Not much happens to this band...I just came up with this.
3/26/04
Ever think about how you never actually see your own face? It's impossible to actually see your own face with your own eyes. You're merely relying on a reflected image on a reflective surface to give an image of how you appear. People will tell you how you look, but perhaps your thought process is completely different and you would see yourself differently than they do. Maybe you want to look a certain way so bad, everytime you look in a mirror you see an image of what you want to be. Maybe you're just the ugliest fucking person that ever existed.
Liquid for thought.

Dude. I'm so tired.

A guestbook has been put back up. So people can leave messages again. Just remember, the guestbook is about spreading The Mercury Love. Love is all you need. Especially the Mercury Love. Oh yeah.

Thanks a lot to everyone who came out to see our acoustic show last night. We played a lot of new songs last night, and it was nice to see them recieve such a warm reception. We also sold a good number of cds and saw some people we haven't in awhile (such as the legendary John Williams of Case In Point fame.) Two Minute Nothing put on a spectacular show, we'd like to thank them for having us open up for them. All in all, it was a great experience, and we look forward to playing with Two Minute Nothing/ at The Net again. Sweet.
2/19/04
Hello. Drinking Mercury will be having an acoustic set at the Net Cafe in Lake Odessa saturday evening. We will be opening for Two Minute Nothing.
2/12/04
Hello. The guestbook has been removed because the last time it was used to talk to/about the band I was still in high school. On a different note Drinking Mercury is playing a show tomorrow in Lansing...location is still not known..but will be very soon. -Michael
2/10/04
Hello. It has been recently discovered that Drinking Mercury is playing a show this friday. This joyful event will take place at some dudes house in Lansing somewhere. Location is soon to be known.
2/5/04
Hello. We have mp3's now!
2/2/04
Hello. We're setting up shows presently. I'd like to take this opportunity to
thank everyone that's bought a CD so far, it means so much. Thank you. On a
less positive note, anyone that's willing to, go to the Ionia Big Boy, ask for
Rhonda, and tell her "YOU FUCKING SUCK! DRINKING MERCURY WOULD TOTALLY KICK
YOUR ASS IF IT WASN'T AGAINST THE LAW, SO THEY MIGHT SMASH YOUR MAILBOX, BUT
FIRST NEED TO FIND OUT WHERE IT IS!! FUCK YOU!!" Michael and I (this is Tommy)
were kicked out of there for no reason whatsoever by the bitchy Rhonda manager
(bitchy looking with a blond ponytail) in May of 2003... we've been back a few
times, tried apologizing (for whatever it is we did wrong) and I even wore
a disguise in there tonight, and we still fucking get kicked out! This was 9
months ago, let it go. And we never did anything. Grr. So that's my vent for
the day. Fuck Rhonda! Peace and love Mercury fans, peace and love.

The Virgin EP was released on Monday. The kids have been buying them up like
hotcakes (and we all know the kids love those hotcakes) and who wouldn't? 3 dollars for 5 songs of Mercury love. I think it's a damn good deal. So get your copy today, the more we sell, the closer to beginning work on an album we'll be. The band biography has been updated as well. Click to the left to check out the new old story of Drinking Mercury.
1/2/04
Another year. Yay. The Virgin EP is ready for release, we'll have copies out
soon. We will be selling these CDs for 3 dollars at our shows (check the shows
page... we haven't booked any yet, but will soon) and each of us will have
copies so talk to us or e-mail us. Album information can be viewed here.
12/18/03
The Virgin EP was completed last evening, there are still some level adjustments to be made, but anyone wishing to purchase this CD of blissful 5 song goodness need only to merely seek out one of us in person or via e-mail (see contact page.) 3 dollars apiece for these EPs, and money's worth is guaranteed, or hoped for at least. If anyone so desires a CD right now, without the final touches, we can get you one and then if you want one of the finalized versions we can trade em off. Oh yeah.
On another note, Erik Krueger (a fella who jammed with us way back when) just told me that his band Flesh and Blood Robot (formerly One Away From Breathing) are looking for a drummer. Anyone interested e-mail [email protected].
12/15/03
The EP is reaching its final stages. Stay tuned.
12/5/03
The music section has been re-organized. Other changes on the site shall be coming up soon. But nothing major, just the little details, so don't worry pretty babies.
11/5/03
The old news has been archived in the appropriately titled "old news page" at the top of the fountain. So yeah. If anyone's curious into the goings-on and misshaps of May 2002 to April 2003 of Drinking Mercury check it out. It's somethin.

On Sunday, November 9th, we will be playing at the Armory (it seems it was rebuilt rather quickly since Tommy burnt the.. er... brick... building down) in Ionia with The Kitten Machine and the great California based band The Snake The Cross The Crown. The Snake The Cross The Crown are going to be big, and Ionia native Mark Fate (formerly of Upside Drown, Uncle Sid etc) is the man behind the skins. Their debut EP, Like A Moth Before A Flame (released on Waste Of Time Records) is some of the best melodic rock out there right now. And we're opening. Sweet. So be there to support us and rock out to The Kitten Machine and The Snake The Cross The Crown.
Like A Moth Before A Flame review (from emotionalpunk.com):
Though smartpunk credits their influences to No Knife and the Promise Ring, The Snake The Cross The Crown really doesn't bring alight any bands I can easily think of, and I consider them to have their own uniquely developed style. And even within the CD, many moods are revealed. From the fast, energetic feel of Letter or Hot Anger, Soon Cold to the smooth, calming feel of (Moneymaker), SCC avoids casting any stereotypes.
For a debut, self-released EP, this sounds beyond brilliant. The piano, guitars, and vocals all come perfectly together for a completely original sound that is dark, melodic, and heartfelt all in one beautiful fusion. Pick up this EP today.
