HAJJ

D) Kinds of Hajj (Pilgrimage): Three Kinds:

i) Hajj Tamattu: It means to get the benefit of Umrah with Hajj in the same journey. It is permissible to the non residents of Mecca, coming from a long distance. They must not enter the boundary of Mecca without Ihra’m, which they must put on at or before Meeqa’t (a specified place for wearing Ihra’m, which is different for different locations/directions). The person intending to perform this Hajj, first wears the Ihra’m of Umrah at Meeqa’t during the period of Hajj (i.e. Shawal, Zeeqad and the first days of Zil-Hajj), and then puts it off after performing Umrah. The person then puts on Ihra’m at the time of Hajj (i.e. 7th or 8th Zil-Hajj). Such a person has no animal with him, but must slaughter the animal/animals after the stoning of Jumrah Kubra (i.e. the Big Devil)on the First Day of Stoning (Rami) (10th Zil-Hajj).

ii) Hajj Qiran: It means that the person performs Umrah & Hajj in the same Ihra’m. Such a person has the animal/animals with him, and must slaughter after stoning the Big Devil on 10th Zil-Hajj.

iii) Hajj Ifra’d: It is exclusively performed by the residents of Mecca. They wear the Ihra’m with the intention of performing Hajj only, and that they do not perform Umrah. Animal slaughtering is not compulsory(wajib) for them.
