ii)Twaf of Kaba: (Circumambulation of Kaba) [ In Masjid Haram ]

(Masjid Haram- the Sacred & the Peaceful Mosque)

Enter Masjid-e-Haram; : pray to Allah on seeing Kaba. It will be better, if you enter through Bab-us-Salam. Set Ihra’m to the condition of ‘Iztibagh’ (i.e. the right shoulder should be kept naked during Twa’f, by putting one side of the upper garment of Ihram on the left shoulder while taking it out through the right arm pit). [Note: On entering any Masjid (Mosque), offer 2 Rakat before sitting.] [(Bukhari:433)]

Start Twaf of Kaba* from the Black Stone (Hajr-e-Aswad):

Say Allah-o-Akbar, and kiss the Stone. In case of rush, just point towards it by saying Allah-o-Akbar. The twa’f of K’ba should be conducted in counter clock wise direction, by staring from or with respect to the Black Stone. (Note that the rotation of the Earth is also counter clock wise about its own axis i.e. from the West to East.). Make 7 rounds of Kaba, by starting from the black stone and ending up there. On every round of Ka’ba, the Black Stone should either be kissed or pointed out towards it by saying Allah-o-Akbar. Note that men should perform ‘Raml’ in the first 3 rounds of Kaba (i.e. they should move hastily by jerking their shoulders during the first three rounds), and move slowly during the last 4 rounds. The women should not perform ‘Raml’, but rather move slowly. After completing Twa’f, cover the right shoulder also with Ihra’m.*[Note: Kaba means like a cube(kube).]

iii) Invocations (Ad-Dawa’t) During Twaf:

a) Recite:“ Subhanallahay walhamdo lillahay wa la’ ilaha illallaho wallaho Akbar – wa la haula wa la quwwata illa billah. (Ibne Maja-Mishkat:2475)

[Note: Who so ever recites the above invocation (doa’) during twaf without talking, his ten sins are wiped off, ten good actions are written, and he is raised to ten grades.(Ibne Maja-Mishkat:2475)

b) Recite Between Rukn Yameni & the Black Stone as below:

‘Allahumma inni asalokalafwa walafiyata fiddunya wala’khira.’

“Rabbana A’tina Fiddunya Hasanatun Wa Fila’khirati Hasanatun Waqina

Aza’bun-Na’r.”(2:200)

[Note: The angels say: ‘Amen’ on it.(Ibne Maja Mishkat:2474)] [ The Black Stone will give a witness in favor of the person, who kisses it. (Mishkat:2463)] [The reward for Twa’f (7 rounds) is like liberating a slave. (Mishkat:2465)] [The Black Stone & Maqa’me Ibrahim are the two precious Stones of the Paradise.(Mishkat:2464)]
