2:55,56 SEEING ALMIGHTY ALLAH
2:55 "And when you said, ‘ O’ Musa! We will not believe in you,
unless We see Allah with our open eyes; then (on such a rude
attitude), the thunder*caught you (and you died on the spot),
when you were observing (this thunder before your death).”
2.56 "Then , We gave you life (again) , so that you may be grateful.”

1. Here in 2:55 above, the Jews very rudely made a condition of seeing Allah, before believing in Prophet Musa. Consequently, they were thrown into the valley of death. No doubt, Prophet Musa himself, once expressed his wish to Almighty Allah to see Him; but Almighty Allah replied: “You cannot see me; however look at the mountain, and if it stays, you will then see Me.” Thus when His Lord cast His ‘Tajalli’ (the smallest fraction of His Light) on the mountain, it burnt away disintegrating into the particles of dust, and (Prophet) Musa fell down unconcious…” (7:143). [ Note that Prophet Musa’s wish to see Allah was for the pleasure and consolation of his heart, which was totally different from that of the disobedient and rude Jews who ridiculed the miracles and the Commandments.
2. It may be noted that the Jews demanded miracles from our Holy Prophet also. The Holy Quran states in this regard:
“ The People of the Book (Jews) ask you (Holy Prophet) to drop for them a
Book from the heaven, whereas they demanded from Musa greater than
this, when they said (to him): ‘ Show us Allah openly.’ Consequently, the
thunder caught them due to their‘zulm’(disbelief). (4:153)
3. Note that the believers will see Almighty Allah in the Last World, as is clear from the following SAYINGS OF THE HOLY PROPHET:
a) Jarir bin Abdullah narrates that once they were with the Holy Prophet,
who on seeing the moon of the 14th night, said: “ You will see your Lord
(in the Last World) just as you see this moon…” (Bukhari:547)
b) Jabir narrated that the Holy Prophet said:
“ The People of Paradise will be in the Grace (Naeem) of Paradise, when
the Light will prevail over them. They will raise their heads upward,
when (their) Lord will be looking at them…and they will see Him;
and so long as they see Him, they will not look at any other thing of the
Grace, till He will disappear, with His Light remaining behind.” (Mishkat:5419)
