2:49,50 THE SLAVERY & FREEDOM OF THE JEWS

2:49 "And (remember) (O’ Descendents of Israel!), when We

liberated you from (the slavery of) the family of Phiraun

(Pharaoh), who gave you a humiliating punishment; he

slaughtered your sons and kept your women alive. And

in it there was a great tribulation for you from your Lord.”

2:50 "And (remember again) when We split the river (Nile)

for you; we thus liberated you and dumped the People

of Phiraun, while you were witnessing (it).”

I) THE SLAVERY & FREEDOM:

i) The Jews lived miserably under Phiraun (Pharaoh)(2:49;7:137;28:4).

ii) Pharaoh divided the people into groups and suppressed one of such groups (i.e. the Jews). (28:4-6)

NOTE:

Pharaoh was probably the first king or ruler, who adopted the policy of ‘DIVIDE & RULE’.

iii)Almighty Allah liberated the Jews from the clutches of Phiraun through His Messenger Musa (Moses).

III) THE MESSENGER- THE LAST PROOF:

i) As already stated earlier, the Messenger of Almighty Allah is the last proof for the people. When the people rejected him, they were destroyed. (4:165;10:47;17:15;28:59)

ii) Before destruction, the people were usually tested through poverty and effluence, lest they believe. (6:42-45;7:94,95)

iii) Consequently, the People of Phiraun were punished (tested) for years (with dryness) and with the shortage of fruits(and grains), so that they might learn a lesson .Then the storm, locust, lice, frog and the blood as clear sign (of their Lord) were sent to them, but they stood proud, as criminals. Then when the severe torment fell upon them, they were compelled to request Prophet Musa to pray to his Lord for removing the torment , so that they might believe in him, and allow the Descendents of Israel to go along with him…But when the punishment was withdrawn for a specific time, they broke away their promise. Therefore, Almighty Allah took revenge from them and dumped them into the river (Nile) (when Musa struck the river & created a way in it.(See 7:130-136;20:77)
